In the context of tree care, jobs such as arborists, tree climbers, and landscape managers are less likely to be fully replaced by AI due to the physical skills, decision-making, and hands-on work involved. These roles require specialized training, safety certifications, and manual labor that AI cannot easily replicate. While automation may assist with certain tasks, the core responsibilities of these jobs are expected to remain relevant.

Job description

Cape & Island Tree Service Inc. is a Cape Cod-based tree care and property service company focused on safe, professional, high-quality work for residential and high-end properties. We provide tree removals, pruning, storm cleanup, property restoration, lawn restoration, and related landscape services.

We are hiring an Experienced Tree Climber / Arborist to join our growing team. This position is for someone who is safe, skilled, reliable, and capable of performing professional tree work on residential and high-end properties throughout Cape Cod.

The ideal candidate has professional climbing experience, understands safe rigging and proper pruning practices, and takes pride in clean, efficient, high-quality work. We need someone who can work well with a crew, communicate clearly, protect client property, and represent the company professionally on every job site.

Responsibilities include climbing, pruning, removals, crown reductions, storm cleanup, hazard limb removal, rigging, rope work, saw work, equipment support, job-site cleanup, and helping maintain tools, trucks, trailers, and equipment. This role may also include assisting with crew direction, job-site safety, equipment operation, and property protection depending on experience.

Valid driverโ€™s license and reliable transportation are required. Cape & Island Tree Service Inc. is not responsible for providing transportation to or from the shop, job site, meeting location, or designated start point for the workday. Workdays may begin at the shop, a job site, or another designated meeting/start point depending on the schedule and job location.

Applicants must be able to report to work on time consistently, work legally on payroll as a W-2 employee, and perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Landscaping and/or tree service experience is preferred. CDL, hoisting license, ISA certification, pesticide license, equipment experience, crew leadership, or strong rigging/removal experience are major pluses.

This is a safety-sensitive position involving chainsaws, ropes, rigging, climbing, chippers, trucks, trailers, equipment, client homes, and residential properties. Employees must be sober, alert, professional, and safe while working, driving, operating equipment, handling tools, or present on any job site.

Pre-employment drug testing is required. Employees must also be willing to submit to random drug testing as a condition of employment. Off-duty lawful substance use is not the companyโ€™s concern unless it affects attendance, safety, performance, driving, equipment operation, or job-site conduct.

Applicants must agree to a background check, including a Massachusetts CORI check. Employment may be conditional upon satisfactory completion of background screening, reference checks, license verification, drug testing, and eligibility to work legally in the United States.

All new hires are subject to a probationary/training period of 1โ€“4 weeks depending on experience, demonstrated ability, safety, reliability, and job performance. Training wages start at Massachusetts minimum wage or higher based on experience, role, safety, reliability, and demonstrated ability.

Employees are paid hourly for hours worked and must accurately clock in and out according to company policy. Employees are required to clock out for unpaid 30-minute meal breaks when scheduled or required.

Cape & Island Tree Service Inc. trains the right people from the ground up โ€” literally. We offer a 30-day pay raise incentive for employees who demonstrate reliability, punctuality, safe work habits, professionalism, willingness to learn, and strong job performance.

Performance-based raises are available based on skill, reliability, safety, productivity, leadership, teamwork, and overall contribution to the company. Bonuses may be offered on larger jobs based on performance, safety, productivity, teamwork, and company profitability. Team performance is reviewed quarterly using company performance metrics such as attendance, safety, productivity, quality of work, job efficiency, client satisfaction, equipment care, teamwork, and job profitability.

Cape & Island Tree Service Inc. also offers a $500 referral bonus for referring a qualified employee who is hired and proves reliable for 3 consecutive months. Referral bonuses are paid through payroll.

Selected candidates must be willing to sign company employment agreements regarding confidentiality, non-solicitation, company property, safety, payroll, attendance, drug testing, background screening, probationary/training period, and professional conduct. Employees may not misuse company information, solicit company clients for side work, take company leads, use company equipment for unauthorized work, interfere with company relationships, or solicit company employees/crew for competing work during or after employment.

Pay range: $28โ€“$45 per hour based on experience, safety, reliability, climbing ability, rigging skill, production, and leadership potential. Higher pay is available for experienced climbers with strong rigging, removals, pruning, CDL, hoisting, ISA, equipment, or leadership skills.

All new hires are subject to a probationary/training period of 1โ€“4 weeks depending on experience, demonstrated ability, safety, reliability, and job performance.

Training wages start at Massachusetts minimum wage or higher based on the role, experience, safety, reliability, and demonstrated ability.

All required training time and all hours worked will be paid in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.

Completion of the training/probationary period does not guarantee a raise, promotion, continued employment, or a specific pay rate. Pay increases are based on demonstrated performance, reliability, safety, attendance, skill level, productivity, and company approval.
