We are looking for a Full-Time Commis Chef to join our culinary team—an opportunity for a motivated cook to take their experience to the next level within one of the Midwest’s most celebrated restaurants. You will:
  • Assist the chef team across all areas of preparation
  • Develop greater precision, organization, and consistency in your work
  • Prepare the kitchen for service and ensure your station and responsibilities are ready on time
  • Maintain impeccably organized walk-in and dry storage, including proper labeling, dating, and FIFO practices
  • Communicate thoughtfully with the chef team when product is missing or unavailable and help identify solutions
  • Support your fellow cooks and the broader restaurant team whenever needed
  • Learn the standards, systems, and discipline that define a world-class fine-dining kitchen
We’re looking for someone with a warm, positive presence, strong work ethic, and genuine desire to improve. You should be comfortable working independently, attentive to detail, receptive to feedback, and generous with your support of the team.
Professional kitchen experience is required. Fine dining or upscale restaurant experience is preferred.
Demi is open Wednesday through Sunday. This is a full-time position requiring four shifts per week, including weekend availability.
The role requires the ability to:
  • Stand and work on your feet for 10–12 hours
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Communicate effectively in written and spoken English
Benefits and Compensation
  • Paid time off is accrued at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked and is available for use as soon as it is accrued.
  • Employer-subsidized health, dental, accident, life, and short term disability insurance plans are available after 90 days of employment.
  • A 401(k) retirement plan with company matching is available after one year and 1,000 hours worked.
  • Free and unlimited access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services.
  • Discounted employee dining at sister restaurant Spoon and Stable.
Demi is a member of Relais & Châteaux, an association of 580 unique hotels and restaurants throughout the world with a dedication to creating joyful guest experiences and offering exceptional levels of service.
