What is a host manager?

Host Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the daily operations of venues such as restaurants, hotels, or event spaces. They manage staff, coordinate guest services, and ensure that guests have a positive experience. Their duties often include handling reservations, resolving customer complaints, and maintaining high service standards. Host Managers also collaborate with other departments to organize events and optimize business efficiency. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential for success in this role.

How does a host manager typically collaborate with other departments to ensure a seamless guest experience?

A Host Manager works closely with teams such as kitchen staff, event coordinators, and front-of-house personnel to ensure guest needs are met efficiently. Effective communication is essential, as the Host Manager often relays guest requests, manages reservation flow, and addresses any service issues that arise. This collaborative approach not only enhances the guest experience but also fosters a supportive work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a host manager, and why are they important?

Job description

Job Title: Host
Employment Type: Full-Time/40 hours per week/Wednesday-Saturday
Location: Sonoma, CA

Helmed by Chef Brian Limoges, Enclos has just received a Michelin Three-Star rating within the first 18 months of opening, as well as the prestigious Green Star for our sustainability efforts.  Enclos offers a nightly Chef's tasting menu, Wednesday through Saturday. In partnership with Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyard and Winery, we will showcase our wines as well as local and international wines.

Job Overview
We are seeking a charismatic and polished Host to join our Front of House team at our Three Michelin Star restaurant. You will serve as the first and last impression for our guests, orchestrating a seamless, memorable, and highly personalized dining experience. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, possesses deep knowledge of food and beverage, and takes pride in delivering unparalleled hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guest Relations & Experience: Provide a warm, gracious welcome, and escort guests to their tables. Anticipate guest needs and ensure their comfort throughout the evening. Escort departing guests to the door with a fond farewell to ensure a lasting positive impression.
  • Reservation Management: Utilize the TOCK reservation system to manage table assignments, monitor dining room pacing, and accommodate VIPs and special requests with precision.
  • Menu & Dietary Expertise: Maintain deep, up-to-date knowledge of the restaurant’s menu offerings. Masterfully manage and communicate guest dietary restrictions and allergies with the culinary team and service staff to guarantee flawless execution.
  • Service Support & Floor Coordination: Actively run food after all guests have been seated, utilizing your food knowledge to confidently present dishes to guests when necessary.  Assist with coffee service.
  • Coffee Service: Provide support for coffee and after-dinner beverage service, ensuring exceptional presentation and guest experience.
  • Administrative Duties: Oversee the daily printing of personalized menus and ensure all dining room materials are immaculately presented.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: While 1–2 years of experience in a Michelin-starred or fine dining environment is highly valued, your character matters most to us. We care deeply about finding someone with a genuine heart for hospitality—someone who finds true joy in making others feel cared for. If you have the passion, we are happy to teach you our steps of service.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge in the TOCK reservation system as well as Outlook.
  • Your Presence: You bring a natural warmth and genuine kindness that put guests at ease. Your curiosity about food and wine comes through in thoughtful, engaging conversations.
  • Grace Under Pressure: Proven ability to remain poised, organized, and welcoming in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Communication: You can guide guests through our arrival experience with poise, clarity, and genuine enthusiasm.

Compensation

  • $35 per hour including tips, 40 hours per week, Wednesday through Saturday
  • Competitive benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, accrued vacation time, and 401(k)

We offer a positive work culture and the opportunity to be part of a Michelin recognized team.
