Management Trainee: Culinary & Hospitality

The Old Shillelagh

Detroit, MI • On-site

$41K - $65K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 6 days ago

Job description

Position Type: Full-Time / Management Track

First Things First

We are a family owned business & treat our staff like family. We are compasionet, understading & know that you have a family of your own. We put in the time when there are events & take time for family during slow weeks. We pick up shifts when one of us needs time for family & expect you to do the same. Family is very important to us, that is why we do this; earn to give our families the best life we can & still be there for them while doing so.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated, "new or seasoned" talent to join our leadership track. This is not just a job; it’s an immersive training program designed for individuals holding both Culinary and Hospitality degrees who are ready to bridge the gap between education and high-level management.

At our core, we believe in the power of locally sourced, scratch cooking and clean ingredients. You will learn to navigate the complexities of a high-volume, fast-paced environment while upholding the traditions of a historic establishment.

Core Responsibilities

As a Management Trainee, you will rotate through every facet of the business to master the following:

  • Culinary Innovation: Take direction on continuous menu development, ensuring every recipe and ingredient meets our rigorous "clean food" standards.

  • Operational Excellence: Fine-tune opening/closing procedures and rigorous cleaning schedules across the kitchen, bars, and dining areas.

  • Front-of-House Mastery: Gain hands-on experience in bartending, bar backing, customer service, and expert-level POS operations.

  • The Business of Food: Master the "back-end" through ingredient sourcing, ordering, labor scheduling, and computer/social media management.

  • People Leadership: Learn the art of "patient leadership"—understanding individual employee strengths to create efficient schedules that minimize overtime and turnover.

  • Stewardship: Basic "handy" skills to assist in the maintenance and preservation of our historic building.

Candidate Requirements

  • Educational Background: Completion of both Culinary and Hospitality degrees (preferred)

  • Work Ethic: A "forward-thinking" mindset with a high aptitude for real-time problem-solving.

  • Physicality: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and a willingness to get your hands dirty (literally and figuratively).

  • Vision: A passion for sustainable, locally sourced ingredients and the ability to translate that passion into a guest experience.

Why Join Us?

This position is designed for the individual who wants to see the "whole staircase" of restaurant management. You’ll be mentored in an environment that values heritage just as much as innovation.

Employment Type: Full Time
Salary: $41,600 - $65,000 Annual
Bonus/Commission: No
