Job description

Area General Manager - Anchorage

Location: Anchorage, Alaska 

Department: Operations 

Status: Salaried / Exempt 

Reports To: Vice President of Operations

JL Hospitality Management is accepting internal applications for the position of Area General Manager - Anchorage.

The Area General Manager will serve as the acting General Manager for an assigned Anchorage property while also providing operational leadership and support to General Managers within the assigned region. This position is designed to strengthen operational consistency, leadership accountability, financial performance, and execution of JL Hospitality Management standards across multiple properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as General Manager of an assigned hotel with full responsibility for day-to-day operations and property performance.
  • Provide operational guidance and support to General Managers within the assigned region.
  • Ensure compliance with brand standards, JL Hospitality Management SOPs, safety requirements, and company policies.
  • Review financial performance, labor controls, revenue results, and operating expenses.
  • Partner with property leadership to improve RevPAR, GOP, profitability, and labor efficiency.
  • Conduct property visits, operational reviews, inspections, and follow-up on identified opportunities.
  • Coach and mentor General Managers and department leaders, reinforcing accountability and leadership development.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives, leadership transitions, new openings, renovations, and other operational needs.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Operations, Human Resources, Sales, and other support departments to execute company initiatives.
  • Assist with succession planning and the development of future property leaders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of hotel General Manager experience required.
  • Proven success leading a select-service or extended-stay hotel operation.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, labor, and profitability.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop hotel leadership teams.
  • Multi-property, task force, or regional leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel between properties within the assigned region as needed.
  • Proficiency with hotel PMS systems and Microsoft Office.
