Job Title: Capital Projects Manager

Job Description

This role leads capital projects across all phases, from initial scope development through installation, commissioning, and final handoff in an industrial manufacturing environment. The Capital Projects Manager translates approved project objectives into actionable plans, manages contractors and vendors, and ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment with site priorities and the annual capital plan. This position offers long-term stability, exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects, and the opportunity to drive continuous improvement in project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of capital projects, from scope development through commissioning and handoff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Translate approved Project Objective Memorandums (POMs) into detailed project scopes, schedules, and cost forecasts.
  • Prepare and issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), and coordinate the vendor selection process.
  • Manage contractor and vendor relationships across all disciplines, including engineering and construction, to ensure effective project execution.
  • Develop, maintain, and track project schedules using tools such as Microsoft Project, ensuring alignment with site priorities and the annual capital plan.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning phases of capital projects, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct constructability analysis to identify risks, constraints, and opportunities for optimization before and during execution.
  • Manage change orders, including evaluation, negotiation, documentation, and communication of impacts to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with operations, maintenance, safety, leadership, and external partners to ensure project alignment and smooth execution.
  • Ensure thorough documentation throughout the project lifecycle, including design documents, construction documents, and as-built records.
  • Lead and coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), ensuring proper training, documentation, and formal acceptance at project closeout.
  • Monitor and control project budgets, proactively managing risks and issues to maintain cost and schedule performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project execution processes to enhance credibility and support future capital investment opportunities.
  • Work independently on-site to manage multiple projects and priorities, escalating issues and engaging stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering consultants and internal teams to develop project designs, technical specifications, and implementation plans.
  • Support the development and execution of the capital plan by providing input on project feasibility, timing, and resource needs.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5+ years of end-to-end project management experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects from scope development through commissioning and handoff.
  • Proven ability to develop detailed project scopes, schedules, and budgets, including cost forecasting.
  • Strong contract management experience across multiple disciplines, including engineering and construction.
  • Experience in project coordination within a manufacturing environment, preferably metals, nuclear, or agricultural industries.
  • Hands-on experience preparing and managing construction documents and design-related documentation.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Microsoft Project for scheduling and progress tracking.
  • Experience performing constructability analysis to identify and mitigate risks during planning and execution.
  • Proven ability to manage change orders, including assessment, documentation, and communication of impacts.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance, safety, leadership, and external partners.

Work Environment

This position is based on-site in an office environment in Albany, supporting a long-term contract role on a capital expenditure (capex) team. You will work closely with other consultants and internal stakeholders, with multiple consultants already engaged on multi-year assignments, providing a stable and collaborative environment. The workload is diverse and extends over several years, combining equipment upgrades with ongoing customer-focused projects, offering both variety and long-term stability. The organization offers preloaded 15 days of vacation each year, which reload annually, and a robust paid holiday schedule, including Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Good Friday, and a floating holiday. Dress code and daily routines align with a professional industrial office and plant-support environment, with appropriate attire required when visiting production or construction areas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
