A hospitalist medical doctor is a physician who specializes in the care of patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists manage and coordinate all aspects of a patient's hospital stay, including diagnosis, treatment, and discharge planning. They work closely with nurses, specialists, and primary care doctors to ensure that patients receive comprehensive and efficient care during their hospitalization. Hospitalists do not typically see patients outside of the hospital setting, focusing exclusively on inpatient medicine.

Managing complex cases with multiple comorbidities requires strong communication and organizational skills to ensure continuity of care and prevent errors. Additionally, hospitalists must balance high patient volumes and rapid patient turnover, which can be demanding but also provides valuable experience in acute care management.
