Description:
Seeking an Emergency Room Registered Nurse for a high-acuity environment.
The unit averages approximately 90 patients per day during normal periods, with peaks up to 140.
Nurse-to-patient ratios generally range from 1:4 to 1:5, depending on acuity.
The facility incorporates a triage area, allowing travelers to sometimes work in this role based on experience.
No separate holding area exists; patients requiring hold status are intermingled within the ER.
All ER staff manage their own ER holds.
Two 'safety rooms' are available for psychiatric patients; however, there is no separate psych area.
In-house security is available on weekends and plans for 24/7 coverage are underway.
All common ER and critical care drips are utilized.
Emergency room staff include MDs and mid-level providers, ensuring adequate coverage.
A charge nurse is present on each shift and manages patient assignments.
Patient care technicians assist with duties such as vital signs and lab draws.
Nurses are required to troubleshoot ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment.
Telemetry monitoring is provided in every room, with RNs expected to interpret their own strips.
Radiology is available for patient transport and imaging needs, operating 24/7.
Shifts are structured as 12 hours, with options for self-scheduling that are subject to managerial approval.
Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, and holiday shifts are rotated with permanent staff.
There is no floating requirement in this role.
Scrubs must be Caribbean blue, with a matching scrub jacket allowed.
