What is a hospital finance manager?

Hospital Finance Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a hospital or healthcare facility. Their duties include budgeting, financial planning, managing billing and reimbursement processes, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. They analyze financial data to help hospital leadership make informed decisions and maintain financial health. Hospital Finance Managers also play a key role in resource allocation and often work closely with department heads to optimize costs and maximize efficiency.

What are some typical challenges a hospital finance manager faces when balancing budget constraints with quality patient care?

Hospital Finance Managers often navigate the challenge of maintaining financial sustainability while ensuring resources are available for high-quality patient care. This can involve analyzing department budgets, prioritizing expenditures, and collaborating closely with clinical and administrative leaders to identify cost-saving opportunities that do not compromise care standards. They regularly monitor financial performance, adjust forecasts, and implement efficiency measures, all while complying with healthcare regulations and adapting to changing reimbursement models. Effective communication and creative problem-solving are essential in addressing these challenges.

Our Opportunity:
Chewy is seeking a Finance Manager to join our high-impact Commercial Finance team, supporting the Hard Goods business! This role sits at the intersection of strategy, analytics, and financial leadership, serving as a trusted partner to business leaders and helping shape key growth decisions. You will combine strong financial acumen with data-driven insights to evaluate new opportunities, guide strategic investments, and improve business performance. From building complex financial models to influencing executive decisions, this role plays a critical part in driving sustainable, profitable growth.
At Chewy, we believe in ownership, accountability, and bold thinking. We are builders who move fast, challenge assumptions, and strive to deliver the best service and pet products anywhere. We work hard, support one another, and take pride in winning as a team, all while keeping things fun (and yes, your four-legged friend is welcome at the office).

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the financial and strategic partner to the Hard Goods leadership team

  • Build robust financial models to support pricing, promotion, assortment, and other key business decisions

  • Analyze large, complex data sets and translate insights into clear, executive-ready recommendations

  • Partner cross-functionally with Merchandising, Product, Marketing, Supply Chain, Accounting, and broader Finance teams

  • Effectively manage numerous projects at a given time in a fast-paced environment

  • Develop and track against business forecasts

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or similar required; MBA preferred

  • 5+ years of relevant experience (Investment Banking, Strategic Finance, Financial Analysis, Corporate Finance, Ops/Supply Chain Finance), preferably with an understanding of brand or retail finance and financial modeling

  • Results-oriented, highly energetic, dynamic individual with hands-on mentality

  • Strong analytical and modeling skills (building from the ground up), and experience in supporting business case development, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis

  • Advanced analytical skills and the ability to get into the details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with adversity and rapidly changing operating conditions while still delivering to expectations

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort in both early stage and corporate environments

  • Familiarity with an e-commerce or retail business model a plus

  • Experience with SQL and Hyperion a plus

  • Travel not required

The base salary range for this role is $100,000 - $176,000.00.
  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.

We offer different types of insurance and benefits, such as medical/Rx, vision, dental, life, disability, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and accident. We offer parental leave, family services benefits, backup dependent care, flexible spending accounts, telemedicine, pet adoption reimbursement, employee assistance program, and many discounts including 10% off pet insurance and 20% off at Chewy.com.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
