Job description

Job Title: Insurance Clerk
Job Location: Salinas, CA
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Max Pay Rate: $28/ Hour on W2

Job Description:
  • Process and submit inpatient and outpatient medical claims to primary and secondary insurance carriers.
  • Verify patient accounts, charges, insurance coverage, and billing information for accuracy.
  • Review prior stays, reconcile billing discrepancies, and process account adjustments.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims, rebill accounts, and resolve billing issues with insurance companies.
  • Maintain accurate billing records and documentation in the billing system.
  • Communicate with patients, insurance carriers, and internal departments regarding billing inquiries.
  • Process late charges, claim corrections, account updates, and self-pay conversions when appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality while providing excellent customer service.
  • Perform additional billing and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Experience:
  • Minimum 1-2 years of hospital or physician medical billing experience.
  • Epic Hospital Billing experience required.
  • Experience submitting and following up on insurance claims, including primary and secondary billing.
  • Experience with medical billing, claim corrections, payment posting, account reconciliation, and insurance verification.
  • Experience communicating with insurance carriers regarding claim status and coverage.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, and/or Medi-Cal billing.
  • Excellent data entry, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous hospital billing experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
