Job description

As a Senior Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer - Machining here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will provide technical expertise and support in materials and process engineering with an emphasis and machining operations and processes. You will work as part of a highly engaged and integrated Materials Engineering team. You will collaborate across Honeywell Aerospace engineering teams to create solutions and systems that meet the evolving needs of our customers. You will participate in all phases of product development and will be a technical point of contact for less experienced engineers.
Approximately 10-20% travel, national and international.
You will report directly to our Senior Engineering Manager, and you'll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities
This Materials Engineering position will provide support for new and existing products including aerospace gas turbine engines used for propulsion and auxiliary power. Primary responsibilities include support for materials and processes involved in the design, manufacture, and machining of parts, as well as regular interaction with internal and external machining suppliers to help resolve issues. May occasionally need to lift 35 pounds single lift.
Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
  • 6+ years of experience in materials/process engineering with an emphasis on machining operations

  • 4+ years experience with aluminum, steel, titanium and nickel aerospace alloys

WE VALUE
  • Bachelor's Degree with specialization in Materials Science, Material Engineering, Metallurgy, Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Advanced degree in engineering or another related field a plus
  • Understanding and hands-on experience in machining operations/processes (grinding, milling, shot-peening, EDM, controlled process machining, non-conventional machining)
  • Familiarity with industrial materials and processing specifications
  • Familiarity with Nadcap and industry standards, requirements and approvals
  • Capable of assessing new suppliers and determining their strengths and weaknesses
  • Experience with conducting machining process audits
  • Working with and developing machining suppliers
  • Liaison work between machining suppliers and Honeywell Engineering, Quality, Supplier Development Engineers (SDE), and Integrated Supply Chain (ISC).
  • Understanding engineering drawings and requirements
  • Experience in Six Sigma, Lean and other process improvement tools
