Job Purpose

Warranty or “lemon law” litigation has rapidly climbed the list of pressing concerns facing Honda because of the significant expense that the company now pays annually to resolve these matters. California has become most critical for Honda in this area due to the volume of cases in that jurisdiction, which is more than the rest of the country combined. Not only have the amount of cases gone up, but so has the workload per case as plaintiffs’ attorneys are now undertaking significant litigation activities to drive up fees. Although this position will sometimes deal with litigation outside of California, it will be dedicated primarily to warranty litigation in California. The paralegal will be responsible for managing a case load, including working with the assigned in-house attorney and Honda's outside counsel.

Key Accountabilities
  • Review case evaluation reports and subsequent status reports and strategize next steps to further case along or resolve. Perform initial review of and revise draft answers, motions and supporting documents, statutory settlement offers and other court documents.
  • Manage daily warranty documentation, including correspondence, emails, CRRS reports, and legal documents.
  • Includes review, analysis, coding for file, input data into ALMA, follow-up with outside counsel and staff attorney as needed.
  • Negotiate settlements in conjunction with outside counsel. Provide authority as needed.
  • Coordinate documentation required for settlements, including agreements and payoff information
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred: Paralegal certification from an ABA approved Paralegal Program required
  • Minimum of 5 years Paralegal experience in a Corporate Law department, or large firm handling litigation matters
  • Experience with California Lemon Law cases (Song Beverly Act)
  • Must demonstrate excellent skills, time-management and reporting abilities
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Ability to work will with others
