As a homebound teacher, your job is to teach a student who must remain at home instead of attending school with their peers. These students often have disabilities or health issues that can affect their ability to complete assignments, ranging from extremely weak immune systems to physical limitations that prevent them from writing answers down or using a computer. As such, many homebound teachers are also special education teachers. Some homebound teachers are the exclusive instructors for students, but you may also work alongside parents or other educators to give each child a full education. This job requires you to travel within an assigned area, so a driver's license and reliable transportation are essential to your success.
