Job description

Hi, Future Homie!
At Homebase, you'll join a team that's bold, fast-moving, and obsessed with helping small businesses thrive. We build with empathy, act with urgency, and take big swings that drive real-world impact. Here, every Homie shows up to raise the bar, support one another, and celebrate wins as a team.
We're not just building an app-we're building unstoppable teams. So what do you say, are you in?
This is a 3-month summer internship (June 2026 -August 2026) in San Francisco, California.
Your Impact Starts Here
We're looking for an AI Engineering Intern who loves mapping real workflows, breaking down ambiguous problems, and shipping AI automations that directly improve how our internal teams operate. In this role, you'll embed with partner teams, learn how their work gets done, and rapidly experiment with LLM-powered solutions that drive measurable impact.
This internship is a fit if you're excited about AI-first engineering, fast iteration, and operating at the front lines of the business. You'll help build the playbooks and tools that shape how Homebase adopts AI across the company.
These are the key ways you'll contribute and create impact in this role:
  • Embed with internal teams (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Support) to map workflows, surface pain points, and identify high-leverage automation opportunities.
  • Design, prototype, and ship AI-powered automations end-to-end, applying LLMs creatively to real business workflows in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
  • Build full-stack solutions-from Python scripts and backend services to intuitive React interfaces-for internal teams to use in production.
  • Operate like a product-minded engineer: run interviews, co-design solutions, and iterate based on real-world usage and feedback.
  • Measure impact rigorously-ship changes that move metrics like rep talk time, ticket deflection, adoption, and operational efficiency.
  • Codify what works by creating reusable templates, playbooks, and documentation for future engineers and partner teams.
  • Experiment with AI tools to accelerate your own workflows and demonstrate AI fluency in your daily work (a Homebase expectation for all roles).

The Foundation for Success - These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role:
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for AI-first engineering, including hands-on experimentation with LLMs, agents, or automation tooling.
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or React, whether through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or open-source contributions.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, learning new systems quickly, and working directly with non-technical stakeholders.
  • A product mindset-ability to break down problems, scope solutions, and iterate quickly based on user feedback.
  • Strong communication skills for pairing with business partners and demoing work.
  • Ability to collaborate in the San Francisco office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (hybrid expectation for all hub-based roles).
  • Passion for helping small businesses and building tools that make teams more effective.

The Homie Way - These principles guide everything we do-from how we work and make decisions to how we show up for each other.
  • Be Customer Obsessed - Solve problems with empathy and creativity.
  • Move Fast, Learn Fast - Experiment, take action, and grow every day.
  • Own Your Impact - Think big, focus on what matters, and make decisions you stand behind.
  • Master Your Craft - Excellence fuels impact-show up, step up, and make your mark.
  • Win Together - Put goals over roles, lead with trust, and connect to our mission and each other.

What to Expect During the Interview Process
  • Meet the Talent Acquisition team, Mavel W.
  • Meet the Hiring Manager, Justin N.
  • Participate in a Talent Showcase
  • Background Check + Offer Stage
  • Welcome to the team, Homie

Belonging at Homebase - We're committed to fostering a welcoming space where every Homie can be their full self. Experience comes in many forms-so if you're excited about this role, even if you don't meet 100% of the qualifications, we encourage you to apply!
Homebase will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
