Responsibilities
Position Overview
MOH is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Clinical Nurse Specialist) to join our expanding Genetic Counseling and High-Risk Breast Program. This APP will play a pivotal role in identifying and managing patients at increased risk for hereditary cancers, particularly breast cancer, and will work closely with oncologists, genetic counselors, breast surgeons, and radiologists.
Under supervision or in collaboration with practice physicians, the APP is involved in the care of individuals, families, and patient groups dealing with cancer, hereditary conditions, or other related diagnoses. This care may be delivered to clinics or virtually via telemedicine. Responsibilities span prevention, screening, patient care, management, and research-including genetic risk assessment and counseling. The APP may serve as a direct caregiver, health care consultant, patient educator, administrator, or researcher. Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards and requirements. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Key Responsibilities
General Oncology & APP Duties
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology and hereditary risk patients.
  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions; prescribe therapies as indicated.
  • Perform procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Provide education and wellness resources to patients and families.
  • Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice.
  • Ensure timely documentation and charge capture.
  • Participate in case management, palliative care, and staff education.
  • Mentor new APPs and precept students.

Genetics & High-Risk Breast Focus
  • Conduct genetic risk assessments for patients with personal or family history of cancer.
  • Provide counseling on inheritance patterns, testing options, and implications for care.
  • Interpret genetic test results and communicate findings to patients and care teams.
  • Develop individualized surveillance and risk-reduction plans for high-risk breast patients. Monitor patients longitudinally for changes in risk status, clinical findings, or genetic updates.
  • Participate in continuing education such as tumor boards, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives related to genetics and high-risk care.
  • Maintain current knowledge of genetic guidelines (i.e. NCCN, ACMG) and integrate evidence-based genetics into practice, including variant reclassification and secondary findings.
  • Support clinical research related to cancer genetics and hereditary syndromes

Qualifications
Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner
  • MSN from an accredited nursing school; completion of NP program.
  • RN licensure and NP certification in Maryland.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience, preferably in oncology or genetics.
  • AOCNP preferred.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.

Physician Assistant
  • Completion of accredited PA program.
  • NCCPA certification and Maryland PA license.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience, preferably in oncology or genetics.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.

Candidate will be asked to complete genetics focused training, as determine by Maryland Oncology Hematology, within 24 months of hire (if not previously completed).
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Requires full range of body motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 40 lbs. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other oncology clinic conditions. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
