Job description

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Construction Inspector to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure located in the greater NYC Metro area and Springfield, MA. The selected candidate will inform the CM team by observing and reporting on construction activities, effectively coordinating and collaborating with the project team members, and providing documentation and inspection activities for various water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications and work plans to verify contractor compliance;
  • Conduct on-site observation, monitoring, inspection, and evaluation of construction activities;
  • Verify and track work in accordance with approved shop drawing submittals;
  • Observe contractor performance and compliance with safety requirements;
  • Prepare daily reports, verify material quantities, Time and Material (T&M) records and review contractor pay applications;
  • Monitor construction contractor’s adherence to project schedule and sequence of activities related to daily field observations;
  • Maintain project redline and as-built drawings;
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with the CM Project team, multi-discipline engineering teams, contractors and third-party inspection/testing firms;
  • Assist and coordinate with project start-up, testing checkout and training activities;
  • Maintain construction inspection and testing related documentation as necessary;

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of construction / construction observation experience;
  • Familiarity with construction methods typical of civil, structural, mechanical and/or electrical engineering work;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Experience working on and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Willing to travel and stay local to projects in the NYC Metro area as needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and related PC software packages used on construction projects
  • Experience in municipal water and wastewater or similar industry construction inspection preferred
  • B.S. or Associate degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, and/or Building/Construction Science preferred but not required.
