Job description

Purpose
The Upper School Rowing Coach is responsible for developing and leading a competitive, safe, and positive training program for student-athletes. This role involves planning on-water and land-based training, teaching technical skills, overseeing safety, mentoring athletes, and managing equipment. The goal is to develop athletes' rowing abilities while instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship consistent with the values of Pine Crest School. The season runs September through May.
Essential Job Functions
  • Supports the School's mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Maintain the highest safety standards at all times: act as lead safety officer on the water, ensuring all rowers adhere to protocols
  • Plan and execute daily on-water practices and land-based training (ergs, strength, conditioning) designed to improve technique and fitness
  • Prepare and manage crews for local, regional, and national regattas, including setting lineups
  • Perform or oversee regular maintenance of rowing shells and oar
  • Actively promote the rowing program to the student body to recruit new athletes.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and enthusiastic team culture
  • Serve as a mentor, offering support and encouraging the mental and physical development of student-athletes
  • Provides for a safe and secure environment as well as practices associated with the sport
  • Promotes individual growth in traits such as teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship at all times
  • Understands and implements all appropriate rules and regulations according to the sport guidelines
  • Establishes and maintains clear policies related to captain selection, team rules, etc.
  • Maintains proper control and discipline in a positive manner by establishing good, wholesome rapport through healthy, professional relationships
  • Instructs student-athletes in the proper care and use of practice facilities, equipment, and uniforms
  • Accompanies and supervises student-athletes during all activities associated with the sport
  • Stays abreast of the latest advances in all facets of the sport
  • Markets and promotes all athletic teams/programs at Pine Crest
  • Supports the philosophy of the Athletic Department
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee

Job Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience and Qualifications
Minimum 1 years' experience in playing or coaching organized sports
Strong leadership, motivational skills, and clear verbal/written communication
Previous competitive rowing experience required
Ability to drive the boat trailer (preferred)
USRowing Level 1 or 2 Certification (highly preferred)
Boater Safety License (required for operating launches)
