Job description

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

- Reviews incident reports, assesses need for further investigation, and determines subsequent action.

- Investigates incidents involving potential risk.  Reviews relevant medical and hospital documents, conducts interviews with involved persons, and assesses present liability and future risk.

- Determines appropriate action for current risk situations.  May open active claim, adjust hospital bill, or negotiate settlement within given parameters.

- Recommends planned interventions to prevent future risks, working with appropriate departments, such as recommending policy and procedure changes or providing educational in-services, as needed.

- Works with hospital's defense attorneys and hospital's claims service to arrange interviews, obtain information, write reports, and provide other assistance as required.

- Review incident reports via the on-line system. Monitors and evaluates success of planned interventions by comparing frequency, severity, and trend data.

- Assumes supervisory responsibility for the hospital's risk management function.  Assists in development of department goals and Quality Improvement Plan.

- Serves on various hospital committees, such as Resuscitation/Code Blue Committee, Mortality and Morbidity Committee, P & T Committee, Infection Prevention Committee. Acts as liaison develops and presents reports and makes recommendations.

- Assists in supervising the secretary including hiring recommendations, orienting, training, counseling, evaluating and discharging.

- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.

- Responsible for Incident Reporting system for assigned location including working with IT on updating users such as Gatekeepers and level 2 reviewers, adding or removing departments, and adding or removing categories, as approved.

- Available after hours as a Risk Management resource to staff and physicians, as needed.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

 

  • Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or equivalent education or experience. 
  • Three (3) years clinical experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • PREFERRED

  • Masters in Health Law, Nursing, or Business.
  • CPHRM certification.
  • Demonstrated computer knowledge.
  • Work Hours:8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Weekend Requirements:NoOn-Call Requirements:NoEmployment Type: FULL_TIME
