What is a home based pilot?

A Home Based Pilot is a professional pilot who is not assigned to a specific airline base but operates from their home location. They typically commute to different airports where their flights originate, reducing the need to live near a major hub. This setup offers flexibility but may require frequent travel to assigned flight locations. Airlines may provide travel benefits to help pilots reach their departure points.

What are typical daily responsibilities for a home based pilot?

As a Home Based Pilot, your daily tasks often include pre-flight planning from your home office, conducting safety checks, coordinating with dispatch and operations teams remotely, and traveling to the aircraft’s location for scheduled flights. You may regularly communicate with maintenance staff, manage required paperwork, and ensure compliance with aviation regulations. While you have increased autonomy, you’re still an integral part of a broader team, using digital tools to stay connected. Flexibility and strong organization skills are key as your flight assignments and routes may vary based on company needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the home based pilot position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Based Pilot, you need a valid commercial pilot’s license, strong flight planning abilities, and extensive experience with the assigned aircraft type. Familiarity with industry-standard flight management systems, remote communication tools, and up-to-date regulatory certifications is essential. Excellent self-management, communication skills, and reliability are crucial for operating independently and collaborating remotely with operations teams. These competencies ensure safe, efficient, and compliant flight operations while working from a non-traditional or remote base.

Job description

Aviation Business Administrator (Part-Time, Path to Full-Time)
Location: Austin or San Antonio, TX. Hybrid, primarily remote, with occasional in-person time across Central Texas.
Hours: About 20 hours/week to start, with the potential to move into full-time with benefits.
Pay: $25 to $35/hour depending on experience.
Help build a business from the ground up
RealClean Aircraft Detailing is a national brand, and our Central Texas team is bringing it to Austin and San Antonio. We detail and protect business jets and turboprops for flight departments, charter operators, and owners, and we are part of a growing network of locations across the country.
We are looking for our first dedicated administrator: someone organized, responsive, and excited to build the systems a growing company runs on. If you come from aviation, or already know the flight departments and FBOs in this market, even better. This is a ground-floor role with direct access to ownership and real room to grow as we do.
What you will do
Build and run our systems
- Create and maintain SOPs across the business
- Own HR administration: hiring support, onboarding, offboarding, and training tracking so every team member is current and accounted for
- Use AI tools to improve our systems and help the business scale. We use them daily and want someone eager to do the same.
Run the back office
- Prepare quotes, completion reports, and customized Fleet Protection Program brochures
- Keep the CRM, schedule, and follow-ups organized and moving
- Be the voice that answers the phone and the fastest reply in a customer's inbox
Grow with us
- As the role moves to full-time, there is potential to take on sales support and customer relationship work with flight departments and FBOs, if that interests you
Who you are
Required
- Based in or near Austin or San Antonio, with a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for occasional travel
- An aviation background or existing relationships in aviation (FBO, flight department, charter, scheduling or dispatch, aviation admin, or similar)
- Highly organized with strong written communication and reliable follow-through
- Comfortable with AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, or genuinely eager to learn them
- Able to pass an airport background check and badging
- Available for occasional weekend or early morning work when aircraft schedules require it
Big plus
- Experience building SOPs, onboarding programs, or training trackers
- Familiarity with CRM tools and Microsoft 365
- Social media experience for a business
Why this role
- Start part-time with a real path to full-time with benefits
- Get in early: build the systems a growing company will run on for years
- Direct access to ownership and a voice in how we do things
- A national brand behind you, and a market you already know
How to apply
Apply through this posting with:
- Your resume
- A two-minute video (Loom or an unlisted YouTube link works great) telling us about your background, your aviation connection, and why this role appeals to you
The video is your chance to stand out. This role is the voice of RealClean - Central Texas on the phone and in writing, so show us how you communicate. We review applications on a rolling basis and reach out to strong fits quickly.
RealClean Aircraft Detailing Central Texas is an equal opportunity employer.
