Summary

Firefly Instrumentation and Control Technicians within the launch group are responsible for the calibration, installation and maintenance of launch site instrumentation and control systems. You will work as part of a small team requiring minimal supervision, so a self-starter is a must!

Responsibilities:

  • Performs work according to policy, procedures and specifications.
  • Constructs launch data monitoring and control systems from specific instrumentation and communication devices.
  • Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs major electronic systems and peripheral devices per manufacturer's specification.
  • Reads complex schematics, wiring diagrams and shop drawings for the purpose of installation, troubleshooting and repairing of components.
  • Troubleshoots, installs, and calibrates various instruments, including ultrasonic level transmitters, flow meters, pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature devices, differential pressure transducers, strain gauges, accelerometers and microphones.
  • Utilizes a wide range of test equipment, including recorders, computers, PC based software analyzer programs, oscilloscopes, data analyzers, analog and digital multi-meters, and other test equipment, while performing tests to identify problems and to maintain and calibrate equipment to performance standards.
  • Connects, disconnects, and tags out equipment and circuits for test or repair and safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Pulls and terminates cables using various wire stripping, crimping tools and connector types.
  • Performs installations in compliance with OSHA, NEC and IEEE.
  • Performs soldering on electronic components.
  • Performs basic mechanical repairs as required.
  • Maintains and repairs network communications systems (i.e. fiber networks, Ethernet networks and network peripherals).
  • Maintains and repairs complete systems and repair/replace subcomponents as required.
  • Perhaps, performs launch site checkouts for test and launch operations and supports launch day red team.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of aerospace or industrial process, instrumentation and controls experience.
  • Ability to correctly interpret complex detailed electrical, electronic drawings and prints.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and numerous software applications such as Excel, Word, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
  • AIAA or DoD Electronic Principles certifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in instrumentation, control technology, electrical systems, or related field
  • 5+ years of aerospace or industrial process, instrumentation and controls experience
  • Prior experience with Fiber Optics, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and licensed and unlicensed radio systems.
  • Working knowledge of multiple bus architectures (PCI/PCIe, PXI/PXIe, GPIB, Serial, USB, etc.) and data communication technologies.
  • Prior experience creating and updating schematics, wiring diagrams and shop drawings.
  • Electrical experience in the following: VFD/Motor starter remote startups and configuration via analog and relay logic, ability to check motor windings with Megger/Ohmmeter.
