Job Description
The Director of Diagnostic Imaging IAH directs the operation of radiological and imaging services providing inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and/or trauma radiology services by ensuring department quality, efficiency, and responsiveness. Ensures that safety requirements are met for all radiological and imaging services. Maintains effective and responsive relationships with patients, attending medical staff and other departments. The Director manages team member productivity, competence, morale, and utilization including hiring, training, evaluating performance, allocating resources, monitoring/counseling staff, and initiating progressive discipline, as necessary. Responsible for managing clinical quality assurance and safety programs by following state and federal regulations. Leads and participates in process improvement initiatives to ensure optimal quality of patient exams and effective department operations.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of all radiological and imaging services including, but not limited to, Diagnostic Radiography, Mammography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Interventional, Emergency Department, and Operating Room Imaging.
  • Provides technical assistance to all areas of the operating unit regarding radiological/imaging services and radiology safety.
  • Responds promptly to requests from other departments within the operating unit and maintains cooperative relationships accordingly; Ensures adherence to service excellence standards and the provision of outstanding service to internal and external customers.
  • Plans facility and capital equipment programs by researching and evaluating new technologies and developing plans for the introduction of new technology into the department.
  • Establishes performance expectations and provides direction, feedback, and guidance to team members.
  • Determines educational and training needs of staff based on an annual assessment of individuals and follows up with an educational plan to meet needs.
  • Oversees Diagnostic Imaging to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but is not limited to, preparing and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization's goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, managing employment decisions and contributions of supporting team members, and managing departmental budget and fiscal success.
  • Understands The Joint Commission Standards, ACR accreditation standards as well as MQSA standards for compliance.
  • Develops, reviews, and implements clinical policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure optimal clinical outcomes; Serves as a subject matter expert in the field of Radiology to support the needs of all modalities.
  • Ensures adequate staffing plans on a 24-hour basis while ensuring equitable staffing requirements.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains clinical education programs for all modalities and all levels of staff to ensure that a high level of clinical expertise and customer service is demonstrated at all times.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Certification - Basic Life Support upon start; American Registered Radiologic Technologists upon start; Certified Radiologic Technologist in Virginia, or ARRT or ARDMS or CNT or CVT or NMTCB or RVT or CAMRT or NMTCB; as applicable with additional certification in an applicable imaging modality required.
  • Licensure - Licensed Radiologic Technologist Upon Start. State Licensure required for all INOVA non-Hospital Licensed centers, but not required if working onsite at an Inova Hospital.
  • Experience - 5 years of management experience in a healthcare related setting
  • Experience- 7 years of experience in radiology services
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in business, Science, or related field Radiological Science; or associate's degree or Graduate of an accredited school/program of Radiology or Nuclear Medicine with additional 4 years' experience* If no bachelor's degree, CRA certificate within 24 months of hire/transfer. If no Bachelor's degree then Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA) certificate within 24 months of hire/transfer.
