Job description

Background
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP: we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a 'leave no one behind' approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP including our values and inspiring stories.
UNDP does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, working to advance sustainable development by advocating change and connecting countries with knowledge, experience and resources to help people build better lives. UNDP operates in more than 170 countries and territories, partnering with governments and communities to develop locally owned solutions to global and national development challenges.
At UNDP, strategic internal and external communication-at the national, regional and global levels-is essential to advancing development results and organizational priorities. The Communications Team leads these efforts by enhancing the visibility and impact of UNDP's work through strategic communications. Within the team, the Social and Digital Engagement unit transforms this mission into compelling editorial and social media content, while working closely with other units to ensure a consistent tone, voice and visual identity.
Reporting to the Spanish Editor, the intern will support the management of UNDP's Spanish-language social media channels and digital editorial content. From drafting social media posts and developing creative concepts for digital assets to supporting global campaigns and event coverage, the intern will help expand the reach and impact of UNDP's communications in Spanish.
Duties and Responsibilities
The interested candidate will:
  • Draft, adapt, schedule and publish content for UNDP's Spanish-language social media channels, ensuring posts are engaging, accurate and aligned with UNDP's editorial and brand guidelines.
  • Manage the Spanish-language social media editorial calendar, ensuring content reflects organizational priorities, key moments and global communication campaigns.
  • Research and identify content that can be adapted and posted on UNDP's Spanish-language social media channels, ensuring a diverse content mix aligned with UNDP's strategic communications priorities.
  • Create visual content, including graphics and short-form videos, following UNDP's brand and visual identity guidelines.
  • Support the implementation of global campaigns and strategic events across Spanish-language social media channels, including live coverage when required.
  • Assist with translating, reviewing and proofreading social media copy from English into Spanish and vice versa, adapting content to maximize clarity, relevance and engagement across platforms.
  • Monitor social media performance and prepare analytics reports, identifying content trends and providing insights to help inform editorial decisions.
  • Monitor and manage audience engagement across UNDP's Spanish-language social media channels, responding to comments and messages when appropriate and escalating issues as needed.
  • Stay up to date with social media trends, emerging platform features and audience behaviors, identifying opportunities to incorporate relevant formats and best practices.
  • Perform other editorial duties as assigned by the Spanish Editor in support of UNDP's Spanish-language digital communications.

Competencies
  • Solid Spanish writing and editing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • Responsible, responsive and enthusiastic.
  • Interest in global issues and the United Nations.
  • Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment and be aware of political sensitivities.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school Programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree Programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:
  • Proven ability to manage social media platforms and create digital content.

Language:
  • Native Spanish and fluency in written and spoken English is required; French desirable.

Availability:
  • Must be available at least four days a week.
