Job Description

This position will assist with laboratory sample preparation and analysis in support of luminescence dating, electron spin resonance (ESR) dating, and gamma spectrometry. Duties include sample cutting and slicing, sieving, mineral separation, acid treatments, and other laboratory preparation procedures as needed.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate records of all sample processing and analytical activities in the laboratory database; organizing and maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies, and workspaces; assisting with routine laboratory maintenance and quality assurance procedures; and supporting the training of new student assistants and visiting researchers. Employees are expected to follow all laboratory safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and perform other related laboratory duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Good oral and written communication skills; punctual

  • Ability to work in dark room conditions

  • Good attention to detail

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lab/fieldwork experience in archaeology, geology or related discipline

  • Education and/or enrollment in science degree program.

Compensation Grade

$19.50/hr

Ability to work at a lab bench, and in dark red light conditions.
