The Mechanic 1st Class is an integral part of our Maintenance team based out of our US - Willow Island, WV (UNION USW - 0499) site.

Hourly rate range for this position is $40.55 - $45.06  

Position Details

The position will be responsible for the safe and overall efficient operation of the production line equipment, tow motors, and facilities. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Position Responsibilities

The Mechanic 1st Class role provides support to the Maintenance Department in maintaining, repairing, and installing equipment with special attention to mechanical and pipefitting duties. Mechanics designated as a First Class Mechanic must be able to perform and/or assist with all principal functional responsibilities without direction by another mechanic. Applicants must be able to access all areas of the plant, enter confined spaces, work at elevated heights and must be able to lift a minimum of 55 lbs.

  • Performs and assists with the maintenance of vacuum pumps, mills, pumps, power transmission, gearboxes, air compressors, chillers; scaffolding; screwed pipe repairs; tubing repairs/replacements; sanitary plumbing repairs; packing replacement; routine lubrication; bolt torque procedure; gasket replacement; and general mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Performs and assists with internal fermenter inspections and repairs.
  • Performs and assists with code welding, general welding, and process piping.
  • Operates and assists with crane operations.
  • Completes scheduled preventive maintenance throughout the plant.
  • Operates fork truck safely and efficiently.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.  A technical degree, Journeyman Apprenticeship is strongly preferred.   Two to five (2-5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment as a Maintenance Mechanic is required.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to access all areas of the plant. The colleague can be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. The employee will occasionally perform work in wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; confined spaces; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; areas of risk of electrical shock or radiation; and around vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
