Job description

Description ****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Title: Casual Hire - PA Announcer Hiring Unit: UHM Athletics Location: Media Relations Department Date Posted: June 22, 2026 Closing Date: Continuous Full Time / Part Time: Part time Other Conditions: Position is a temporary casual hire position and offers no benefits, hours not to exceed 19.75 hours per week. Continuous recruitment until programmatic needs are met. Duties and Responsibilities: Reports to the Assistant Media Relations Director of assigned sport

Public Address Announcer is responsible for game-day announcing for University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics sporting events. Reads pre-game announcements, introduction of the National Anthem and player introductions; Reads in-game announcements of game events, and scripted announcements during stoppages of play Reads halftime announcements including game statistics and promotional events; Reads post-game announcements as directed; As directed by the designated game manager, provides announcements to crowd during the game to ensure a healthy, competitive atmosphere exists for all home athletic contests Ability to adapt to quickly changing game situations. Ability to think and work under time-sensitive situations.

Knowledge and understanding of rules and statistics of designed assigned sport. Demonstrates a positive and professional working attitude and maintain a collaborative working relationship with the coaching staff, support staff, administrators in the UH Athletics Department and other individuals associated with the Athletics Department. Knows, recognizes, and complies with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future.

Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Sports announcing experience Strong and pleasant voice with attention to proper pronunciations.

Strong attention to detail; Expressive but clear and controlled vocal skills; Varied vocal delivery based on game situation; Advanced knowledge of the sports Knowledge and understanding of rules and statistics of designed sport. Ability to think and work under time-sensitive situations. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays and nights when needed as many events are scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
