Job description

Amazon Leo is launching a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
Have you ever wanted to become involved in the global operation of satellite earth stations for a high-performance satellite constellation? We are looking for a Sr. Antenna Fleet Operations Engineer to join Amazon Leo's Antenna Fleet Operations team. You will lead efforts to ensure high performance ground gateways are able to continuously serve our customers by assessing and improving terminal performance, and by investigating faults and anomalies, both remotely and on-site at our ground gateway terminals. You will act as a technical leader for the team, mentoring less experienced engineers and collaborating with other subject matter experts to develop the tools and procedures necessary to support this global endeavor.
This position may require access to information, technology, or hardware that is subject to export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining any required export licenses or other approvals from the United States government. As such, the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain any necessary export licenses or approvals based on their nationality, citizenship, and any other factors considered by the applicable export control regulations."
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities
* Serve as a technical leader and escalation point for the Antenna Fleet Operations team, setting the technical direction for fault investigation and remediation practices.
* Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and technicians, growing their diagnostic skills through hands-on coaching, design and procedure reviews, and structured feedback.
* Raise the bar on operational quality by reviewing others' troubleshooting approaches, documentation, and root cause analyses.
* Assess the health and performance of globally distributed ground terminals.
* Address and remediate antenna faults, alarms, and anomalies.
* Perform on-site fault analysis and troubleshooting of gateway antennas.
* Maintain and/or update antenna calibrations as necessary.
* Perform software updates/upgrades of antenna components.
* Design system test and verification processes and document at-scale mechanisms.
* Manage tactical interactions with partners to ensure milestones, deliverables, and technical artifacts are technically compliant with project objectives and programmatic requirements.
* Work with stakeholder teams to maintain operational terminals in sync with organizational goals.
* Develop team training plans and materials.
* Communicate regularly with senior management on status, risks and change control.
A day in the life
As an Antenna Fleet Operations Engineer, you will provide both remote and on-site leadership to analyze, fix, and maintain our gateway antennas across the world. You will address tickets generated by our automated monitoring systems, providing critical feedback to dial in and improve our systems. As a senior member of the team, you will lead troubleshooting efforts in the field and at the desk, mentoring less experienced engineers and technicians and turning what you learn on-site into repeatable procedures the whole team can use. You will devise mechanisms and procedures to support efficient troubleshooting and remediation efforts.
You must be willing to travel 25-50% to our gateways in order to address physical problems and troubleshoot faults and anomalies. Your contributions will keep our systems capable of serving our customers. These systems provide mission critical communications with Leo satellites. Ground terminals include state of the art tracking antennas, modems, and innovative support systems.
About the team
The Ground Systems team is responsible for the architecture, design, build, installation, and operation of globally located Amazon Leo Ground and TTnC terminals.
