A Brief Overview
Monitors the patient's cardiac rhythms on the Telemetry Unit.
What you will do
  • Records and performs monitoring procedures as assigned
  • Reports observations and any rhythm changes immediately to the responsible RN or Charge Nurse
  • Recognizes and verifies all alarms promptly counts rhythm stripping as assigned and whenever a change in rhythm occurs
  • Applies monitor leads to patient to obtain the best ECG signal
  • Performs 12 lead EKG as requested
  • Completes all monitor recording
  • Enters patient data into the monitoring system correctly with patient medical record number included. Keeps an accurate written record of monitor rhythms on the shift
  • Recognizes equipment inadequacies and promptly reports to the Charge Nurse and Biomedical for an equipment check
  • Maintains proper par levels of the necessary batteries, electrodes, papers needed for around the clock monitoring
  • Reports off duty to the Charge Nurse before leaving the nursing unit or to incoming monitor technician
  • Establishes a good rapport and professional working relationship with all departmental personnel; maintains appropriate inter departmental communications
  • Assumes responsibility for reading all posted minutes and memos
  • Attends mandatory education classes as assigned

Education Qualifications
  • High School or equivalent Required

Experience Qualifications
  • Acute care hospital experience. Previous experience as Monitor Technician preferred Preferred
