The Estimator interprets total opening requirements as set forth within contract documents (i.e., plan, specifications, addenda, and other related information) concerning an individual construction project. Uses computer technology and mathematical skills in the formation of the estimate.
Essential Functions
• Works directly with Contractor including the hard bid processes
• Reviews scope of work with General Contractor pre/post bid and hardware/HMF manufacturer combo packages determine most competitive position
• Performs labor cost interpretation based on scope of work
• Receives constructing plans, drawings and specifications and reviews for familiarization; checks for completeness; notes bid deadlines and any special requirements
• Organizes approach to project by deciding how to separate portions of major projects and to identify typical opening or hardware sets, etc.; notes project construction schedules, if applicable
• Interprets construction specifications; where necessary, discusses interpretations with team salesperson, customers or the architect
• Reads building plans and identifies applicable portions with Cook & Boardman involvement
• Summarizes door opening and other applicable portions of plans by type
• Compares actual and estimated materials on completion of each project
• Enters applicable information into Comsense system and prices job based on computer cost files
• Responsible for complete door and hardware takeoffs and costing all parts and scope of work
• All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• 3-5 years of related experience in similar construction or building material industry
• Accurate mathematical skills
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Blueprint/plan reading and specification interpretation
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of door, frame and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fire code, building code, ADA, life safety and other restrictions that relate to the general commercial construction industry
• Excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented, deadline conscience, goal driven, and able to handle all types of scopes of projects
Physical Demands
