HL7 Integration Developers often encounter challenges related to varying interpretations of HL7 standards across different healthcare systems. Each hospital or vendor may customize HL7 messages, requiring developers to adapt interfaces and handle exceptions. Additionally, managing data consistency and ensuring secure, real-time data exchange can be complex due to legacy systems or limited documentation. Effective communication with clinical, technical, and vendor teams is essential to troubleshoot issues and deliver seamless integrations.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced MuleSoft Integration Developer with a strong background in healthcare (specifically health plan environments) to join our growing integration engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain API-led connectivity solutions that power critical business and clinical workflows.

As we expand our API management capabilities, experience with Kong Gateway is a highly valued plus. This is a critical role ensuring that our claims, eligibility, and provider data flow seamlessly and securely across our ecosystem.

What You Will Do
  • Design & Implementation: Build integrations using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (Mule 4), following API-led connectivity best practices (System, Process, Experience APIs).
  • API Management: Build and maintain RAML/OAS specifications; manage APIs through SLA tiers, rate limiting, and security policies.
  • Healthcare Integration: Connect claims processing, eligibility verification, and provider data platforms using HL7 v2, FHIR R4, and EDI X12 (837, 835, 270/271) standards.
  • Resiliency & Performance: Implement error handling, retry logic, and dead-letter queues; optimize performance and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Security & Compliance: Enforce OAuth 2.0, JWT, and mTLS standards; ensure all integrations strictly adhere to HIPAA requirements and PHI handling.
  • Gateway Collaboration: Work with infrastructure teams on gateway configuration, including Kong Gateway where applicable.
  • Agile Teamwork: Participate in Scrum ceremonies, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior developers.
What You Will Bring
  • Core Expertise: 4+ years of hands-on MuleSoft development experience (Mule 4 preferred).
  • Certification: MuleSoft Certified Developer (Level 1) or the ability to obtain it within 6 months.
  • Technical Stack: Proficiency with DataWeave 2.0, REST/SOAP, and messaging protocols (JMS, AMQP, Kafka).
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of HIPAA requirements and secure data handling.
  • DevOps: Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps) and cloud models (CloudHub, RTF).
  • Communication: Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Kong Gateway: Experience with configuration and plugin management.
  • Advanced Certs: MuleSoft Integration or Platform Architect.
  • Interoperability: Experience with FHIR-based APIs and EHR/CRM integrations (Salesforce Health Cloud, Epic, etc.).
  • Architecture: Knowledge of microservices and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Submission Requirements & Details
  • Work Authorization: Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Green Card holders.
  • Location: Must be local to Phoenix, AZ and willing to be onsite 1-2 times per week.
  • Urgency: This is an urgent fill; we are looking for candidates ready to interview and start immediately.
  • Industry: While healthcare experience is preferred, it is not strictly required if you have strong MuleSoft fundamentals.
