Hiring Translator information

What does a hiring translator do?

A Hiring Translator is responsible for translating job postings, recruitment materials, and communication between employers and candidates who speak different languages. They help ensure that all parties involved in the hiring process understand each other clearly, reducing language barriers. This role is vital for companies that want to attract a diverse workforce and ensure fair and effective recruitment. Hiring Translators may also assist during interviews, onboarding, and employee training sessions to facilitate smooth communication.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a hiring translator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hiring Translator, you need advanced proficiency in at least two languages, a deep understanding of cultural nuances, and often a relevant degree or certification in translation or linguistics. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, terminology management systems, and sometimes professional certifications like ATA are typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication, and adaptability are key soft skills that set top translators apart. These skills ensure accurate, culturally appropriate translations and effective communication between parties, which are vital for successful hiring and organizational outcomes.

How do translators typically manage projects that involve multiple languages or tight deadlines?

Translators often work with project managers and other linguists to coordinate assignments involving multiple languages or fast turnarounds. They may use translation management systems and collaborative tools to streamline communication, share glossaries, and track progress. Effective time management and prioritization are essential skills, as translators must deliver accurate work while meeting deadlines. Teamwork and clear communication with clients and colleagues help ensure high-quality results, even under pressure.

Job description

Our client, a growing civil-engineering and surveying team in the Indianapolis area is seeking an experienced Surveyor to support boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking projects across central Indiana. This role is hands-on, field-focused, and ideal for someone who takes pride in accuracy, efficiency, and craftsmanship.
The Surveyor works closely with project managers, CAD staff, and field crews to deliver precise field data and high-quality survey products from mobilization through final deliverables.
$75,000 - $90,000 a year
Key Responsibilities
• Perform boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking surveys
• Operate and maintain total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and data collectors
• Process and reduce field data; prepare point files and surface data for CAD production
• Research plats, deeds, easements, and county records to support boundary determinations
• Coordinate with CAD technicians to ensure accurate translation of field data
• Lead field crew operations, equipment logistics, and daily mobilization
• Document field conditions, anomalies, and findings in clear field notes and reports
• Ensure compliance with Indiana survey law and professional standards
• Track project progress and communicate schedule or scope issues proactively
Minimum Requirements
• 3+ years of professional field surveying experience
• Proficiency with total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and electronic data collectors
• Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, plats, and deed documents
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and terrain
Preferred Qualifications
• Indiana Licensed Land Surveyor (LS) or LSIT actively pursuing licensure
• Experience with Trimble or Leica equipment and related software
• Familiarity with central Indiana survey records (Boone, Hamilton, etc.)
• Construction staking experience for land development projects
• Ability to mentor or lead a survey technician or two-person crew
What Makes an Ideal Candidate
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
• Dependable, field-ready, and methodical in both work and documentation
• Proactive communicator who flags issues before they become downstream problems
• Organized field notes and consistent reporting habits
• Reliable and punctual - understands that field schedules depend on the crew
• Sees surveying as a craft and takes ownership of the quality of their work
Standout Qualities
• Active Indiana LS license with the ability to stamp deliverables
• Experience managing survey projects from records research through final plat
• Familiarity with county recorder and surveyor systems in central Indiana
• Demonstrated leadership of field crews or mentorship of junior technicians
This is not a large production environment - it's a lean, high-accountability team where your judgment and field expertise directly influence project outcomes. The work is varied, your contributions are visible, and strong performance is rewarded through a project-based incentive structure. For a licensed or license-track surveyor who wants ownership, autonomy, and a direct line to leadership, this role offers a meaningful next step.
Benefits: Health Plan, Vision, Dental
401k / HSA plans
