What is a hiring director?

A Hiring Director is a senior-level professional responsible for overseeing an organization's recruitment and hiring processes. They develop talent acquisition strategies, coordinate with department heads to identify staffing needs, and ensure that the hiring process aligns with company goals and compliance standards. Hiring Directors also manage recruitment teams, evaluate candidates for leadership roles, and play a key role in employer branding and workforce planning. Their decisions directly impact the growth and culture of the organization.

How does a hiring director typically collaborate with other departments during the recruitment process?

A Hiring Director works closely with various department heads and team leads to understand their specific hiring needs and organizational goals. This role involves regular meetings to define job requirements, align on candidate profiles, and set priorities for open positions. Additionally, the Hiring Director often partners with HR, legal, and finance teams to ensure compliance, budget alignment, and a smooth onboarding process. Effective cross-department collaboration is essential to attract top talent and ensure new hires are set up for success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a hiring director, and why are they important?

To excel as a Hiring Director, you need deep expertise in talent acquisition, strategic workforce planning, and a strong understanding of employment laws, typically supported by a degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HR analytics tools, and certifications such as SHRM-SCP or SPHR are commonly required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, leadership, and the ability to influence and build relationships set top candidates apart. These competencies ensure the organization attracts and retains the best talent while maintaining compliance and supporting business growth.

NOW HIRING - Director of Claims
About PTI - Where the RIGHT way is the SAFE way:
Professional Transportation, Inc. has been providing crew transportation services for railroads since 1980 and has an industry reputation for providing quality, reliable, and safe crew transportation services. Much like a shuttle service, PTI receives around-the-clock requests from our railroad customers to pick up and drop off train crews.
About the Role
Professional Transportation, Inc. (PTI) is seeking an experienced Director of Claims to lead our Claims Management Program and help reduce risk and control claim-related costs.
This position oversees FELA, non-FELA casualty, and workers' compensation claims, including litigation strategy and settlement coordination. The Director partners closely with senior leadership, legal counsel, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, railroad customers, and internal teams and supervises approximately two direct reports.
What You'll Do
  • Manage litigated FELA and non-FELA casualty claims from initial filing through resolution.
  • Develop claim and litigation strategies in partnership with outside counsel, insurance carriers, railroad customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Select and manage outside counsel and other claim-related vendors.
  • Oversee discovery, investigations, surveillance, mediations, trials, appeals, and other litigation activities.
  • Evaluate claim exposure and coordinate settlement strategies and authority with PTI leadership.
  • Review legal expenses and outside counsel billing to ensure appropriate cost management.
  • Oversee the reporting, investigation, and resolution of workers' compensation claims.
  • Manage workers' compensation litigation, subrogation efforts, and quarterly reserve reviews.
  • Develop and improve claims policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Monitor claim trends, case law, and regulatory changes to identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Partner with PTI's Risk, Safety, and Leadership Teams to develop strategies that reduce claims and organizational risk.
  • Provide claims-related guidance and education to leaders and employees.

Why Join PTI?
  • Multiple health plan options, including medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holiday pay, with overtime opportunities
  • 401(K) retirement plan for your future
  • Discounted cell phone plans with Verizon and AT&T
