Job description

Position Overview

The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations on DSA and Public Works construction projects from mobilization through project closeout. This individual will manage subcontractors, coordinate daily jobsite activities, maintain project schedules, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract documents, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

Projects may include K-12 schools, higher education facilities, municipal buildings, government facilities, public safety buildings, tenant improvements, renovations, seismic upgrades, and ground-up construction. The ideal candidate has extensive experience leading DSA and Public Works projects and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality results.


Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all day-to-day field operations from project startup through final completion.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, field personnel, inspectors, and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain short-term and long-term project schedules while driving production milestones.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, contract documents, and applicable building codes.
  • Lead daily subcontractor coordination meetings and weekly owner/architect meetings.
  • Maintain a safe jobsite by enforcing OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Coordinate inspections, special inspections, testing agencies, and jurisdictional authorities throughout construction.
  • Ensure compliance with DSA requirements, documentation, inspections, and project closeout procedures on education projects.
  • Monitor project quality through regular inspections and proactively resolve field issues before they impact schedule or budget.
  • Review and coordinate RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and field changes with the Project Manager and design team.
  • Track manpower, productivity, equipment, and material deliveries to maintain project efficiency.
  • Coordinate project logistics, site access, temporary facilities, and sequencing of work.
  • Assist with project scheduling, look-ahead planning, and recovery plans when necessary.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, owner training, turnover documentation, and final inspections.
  • Foster strong relationships with owners, architects, consultants, inspectors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Superintendent managing commercial construction projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience overseeing DSA and/or Public Works projects.
  • Experience managing ground-up construction, renovations, tenant improvements, and modernization projects.
  • Strong knowledge of DSA construction requirements, inspection processes, documentation, and project certification.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors while maintaining aggressive project schedules.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, quality control, scheduling, and safety practices.
  • Experience leading projects ranging from approximately $5 million to $100+ million.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, or similar construction management software. The use of modern construction technology and project management systems is expected in this role.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with design-build delivery methods.
  • Experience managing California K-12, higher education, municipal, civic, or other government-funded construction projects.
  • Knowledge of CPM scheduling and pull planning.
  • Experience with LEED, sustainable construction practices, or energy-efficient building systems.
  • Strong understanding of contract administration, change management, and project documentation.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are a plus.
