THE POSITION

By joining our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliable distribution of electrical power, maintaining vital systems, and swiftly addressing emergency repairs. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position plays an important part in keeping electrical systems safe, steady, and ready for emergencies. It supports reliable operations through careful testing, repair work, and real time system adjustments. Your work will occur in key locations, including the Harrisburg Capitol Complex, the Governor's Residence, the Lieutenant Governor's Residence, and the Regional Office Buildings. As a High Voltage Technician, you will perform the following duties:
  • System Analysis: Examine electrical equipment and compare readings with standards to guide adjustments
  • Emergency Response: Make substitutions and repairs during system failures while following all safety rules
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, calibrate, and repair control devices, meters, and power generating components
  • Component Repair: Dismantle, rebuild, and adjust generators, motors, converters, and related equipment
  • Power Control: Operate switchboards to manage electrical generation and distribution across facilities
  • Field Work: Install transformers, cables, and conduits, and use lift equipment to complete overhead repairs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • This is a 5-day, 16-hour a day operation subject to shift work.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a High Voltage Electrician Training program; or
  • Six years of journey-level electrical experience, including eighteen months of experience in high voltage electrical work.

Special Requirement:
  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License which is not under suspension.

Condition of Employment:
  • You must possess a valid Master Electrician License from the City of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Additional Requirements:
  • This position is located at 509 North 7th Street, Harrisburg, PA. You must be willing and able to report to this location daily for work.
  • You must be willing and able to work different shifts.
  • You must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • You must have at least 18 months industrial/commercial style switchgear experience.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Possess computer/technologies experience in any of the following: Word, Excel, AIM work order, ESS system, smart phone, email.
  • Experience working from ladders, scaffolding, bucket truck, or manlifts while following safety procedures.
