School Security Officer
Location: Sauk Village, IL
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday 7:30 am-3:30 pm(On Call as needed)
Pay Rate: $18 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise assigned areas to maintain safety, security, and order.
- Conduct regular patrols of school buildings, hallways, stairwells, grounds, and other designated areas.
- Secure exterior doors and monitor access to school facilities.
- Utilize a tour-of-duty system to document inspections and patrol activities.
- Assist visitors and members of the public by providing directions and ensuring compliance with school procedures.
- Respond promptly and professionally to staff concerns, incidents, and emergencies.
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter unauthorized activity and promote a safe learning environment.
- Escort students when necessary and assist school staff in maintaining order.
- Immediately report security breaches, incidents, suspicious activity, or safety concerns to the Principal and Supervisor.
- Monitor and observe security camera systems.
- Operate metal detectors and other weapons-detection equipment when required.
- Manage school access points and follow visitor management procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration or SMSSI management.
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a courteous, professional demeanor.
- Prior experience in school security, campus safety, law enforcement, customer service, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
- Completion of a 20-hour security training course.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including shifts of up to 8–12 hours.
- Physical capability to respond to emergency situations and perform required security duties.
Additional Information
Security Officers report to both school administration and SMSSI management. This role plays a critical part in fostering a secure, welcoming, and orderly learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
