Duties
- Design and implement a comprehensive science curriculum aligned with educational standards and tailored to diverse student needs.
- Deliver engaging lessons and hands-on laboratory activities in general science and advanced science courses based on the teacher's area of expertise.
- Advanced science course assignments may include subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, anatomy, or other specialized science disciplines.
- Develop innovative lesson plans incorporating instructional design principles and modern educational technology tools.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively while fostering an inclusive, respectful, and positive learning environment.
- Prepare students for standardized testing through practice assessments, targeted instruction, and academic support.
- Assess student progress regularly through assignments, quizzes, projects, presentations, lab reports, and exams; provide constructive feedback to encourage growth.
- Mentor students individually or in groups, offering academic guidance and support for science fairs, research projects, or future educational goals.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development initiatives and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and participation; ensure compliance with school policies and laboratory safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, administration, and staff regarding student progress and needs.
- Support extracurricular activities, student organizations, or STEM-related school events as needed.
- Stay current with scientific advancements, educational trends, and best practices in secondary science instruction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Science Education or a related science field; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid Secondary Education Science Teaching License/Certification required.
- Proven classroom experience teaching high school science subjects.
- Strong knowledge of general science concepts and at least one advanced science discipline.
- Ability to teach advanced science coursework based on academic background, certification, and area of expertise.
- Experience in laboratory settings and familiarity with laboratory safety procedures.
- Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Familiarity with instructional technology platforms and digital learning tools.
- Strong communication skills for working effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
- Ability to create an inclusive learning environment for diverse learners.
- Strong organizational skills for lesson planning, curriculum development, and record-keeping.
- Experience supporting students with special education accommodations is desirable.
