Job description

Structural Project Designer | San Francisco, CA

IMEG is hiring a Structural Project Designer in San Francisco, CA, to lead design efforts for low to moderate complexity projects and support senior staff on larger, high complexity work. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and consultants to provide structural engineering solutions for buildings and other structures, including analysis, design, and implementation oversight. You'll also help manage project budgets, mentor team members, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities

Lead the analysis and design of structural systems using a variety of building materials
Use engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
Interact with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships
Support consulting project execution through project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives
Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project progress, percent complete, and fee expended
Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutions
Provide in-process design reviews of structural system designs, calculations, and specifications while implementing IMEG quality control processes
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering while contributing to research and innovation efforts
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions
Identify potential project problems, seek guidance from the Project Manager, and support projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases
Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner

Required Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
Master's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred
3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
OR
Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures
Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Proficiency in the use of BIM software
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

State of California Salary Range: $104,000-$145,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
