What is a High Impact Tutor?

A High Impact Tutor is an educator who provides targeted, data-driven support to students, often in small groups or one-on-one settings, to help accelerate learning and close achievement gaps. They focus on delivering evidence-based instruction, frequently in subjects like math or reading, and tailor their approach to meet the individual needs of each student. High Impact Tutors work closely with teachers and schools to align their efforts with the curriculum and student learning goals, ensuring that the support provided leads to measurable academic improvement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a High Impact Tutor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a High Impact Tutor, you need strong subject-matter expertise, instructional skills, and often a relevant degree or teaching certification. Familiarity with digital learning platforms, assessment tools, and data tracking systems is typically important. Excellent communication, patience, and the ability to build rapport with students are key soft skills that set outstanding tutors apart. These skills help deliver personalized instruction, foster student engagement, and drive measurable learning gains.

High Impact Tutors work closely with classroom teachers by regularly communicating about student needs, progress, and learning goals. Tutors often receive guidance on curriculum priorities and specific student challenges directly from teachers, allowing them to tailor sessions for targeted support.
