What are HHA pay rates?

HHA pay rates refer to the hourly or salary wages paid to Home Health Aides (HHAs) for providing care and assistance to patients in their homes. The average pay rate for HHAs in the United States typically ranges from $13 to $18 per hour, depending on factors such as location, experience, employer, and level of care required. Some states or agencies may offer higher rates, and additional benefits like overtime pay or bonuses may also be available.

How do pay rates for Home Health Aides (HHA) vary based on experience and work setting?

Home Health Aide (HHA) pay rates can vary significantly depending on factors such as years of experience, location, and the type of employer. Generally, HHAs working for home health care services or private clients may receive different compensation compared to those employed by nursing care facilities or government organizations. More experienced aides or those with specialized certifications may command higher hourly rates. Additionally, urban areas and regions with higher living costs often offer increased pay. It's helpful for job seekers to research local averages and inquire about benefits or overtime policies when considering positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Home Health Aide (HHA), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Health Aide (HHA), you need a basic understanding of personal care techniques, physical stamina, and often a high school diploma or completion of a state-approved training program. Familiarity with electronic visit verification systems and basic medical equipment is typically required, and certification may be necessary depending on state regulations. Compassion, patience, and strong interpersonal communication skills help HHAs build trust with clients and effectively address their needs. These skills and qualities are essential for providing safe, respectful, and effective care in clients' homes.

Job description

In-Home Caregiver (CNA/PCA/HHA)

Location: Wake Forest, NC and nearby communities
Pay: $14–$18 per hour, based on credentials, experience, and assignment
Employment Type: Part-time and PRN, with opportunities for additional hours as client needs grow

Are you looking for a caregiving position where you can slow down, focus on one person, and make a meaningful difference?

Preferred Care at Home of Wake Forest, Zebulon, and Henderson is building a dependable local team of caregivers to support seniors in Wake Forest and nearby communities, including Youngsville, Franklinton, Rolesville, and Louisburg. We are seeking CNAs, PCAs, HHAs, and experienced caregivers who believe older adults deserve compassionate, respectful care in the comfort of their own homes.

Unlike facility-based care, our caregivers work one-on-one with clients. This gives you the opportunity to understand each person’s routines, preferences, and needs while building a genuine relationship with the client and family.

This is an assignment-based position. Schedules and weekly hours vary based on client needs, caregiver availability, qualifications, proximity, and compatibility. We make every reasonable effort to match caregivers with clients close to where they live. Additional assignments and hours may become available as our client base grows.

Why Join Our Team?

  • Flexible, assignment-based scheduling

  • Weekly pay

  • W-2 employee position

  • Thoughtful matching based on skills, availability, preferences, and proximity

  • A locally owned and family-operated agency

  • Responsive support and open communication

  • Opportunities for additional hours as new assignments become available

  • Meaningful work helping seniors remain safely at home

Responsibilities May Include

  • Assisting with grocery shopping and errands

  • Providing transportation when authorized as part of the assignment

  • Supporting clients living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia

  • Observing, documenting, and reporting changes in a client’s condition

  • Following the client’s established plan of care

  • Communicating professionally with clients, families, and the agency

Caregivers are assigned only to responsibilities appropriate for their qualifications, demonstrated competencies, and the client’s plan of care.

Qualifications

Applicants should meet at least one of the following:

  • Active, good-standing listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry or the NCDHHS Health Care Personnel Registry

  • Completed PCA or HHA training

  • Previous professional caregiving experience in home care, assisted living, memory care, senior care, or a related setting

  • Relevant personal caregiving experience with the ability to complete required training and competency evaluations

All applicants must also have:

  • Reliable transportation to clients’ homes

Pay
  • PCA, HHA, and caregiver assignments: generally $14–$17 per hour

  • CNA assignments: generally $16–$18 per hour
