General Purpose

Works with journeyman and others in the installation and maintenance of plant equipment and other work as assigned.  Under the direction of a Journeyman, a Helper may operate hand tools and small power tools necessary to perform unskilled support of the Journeyman if qualified.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Pick up/deliver/fuel vehicles
  • Pick up parts and supplies from local vendors
  • Run parts and tools to crews
  • Sweeping and general housekeeping
  • Stripping and breakdown of scrap and salvage material
  • Filing of Daily Reports
  • Fill water containers for crews
  • Other duties as assigned

This is an entry level position.  Workers needs to adapt to a variety of tasks and work environments.  Must be able to follow instructions closely.

  • High school diploma or proof of equivalent GED.
  • Prior experience with hand tools and small power tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, or greater.
  • Must have a current Driver License 
  • Pass a physical exam.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision and Depth perception.  Typically uses hand tools such as brooms, shovels, hand carts, maintenance tools, such as screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, jack hammers, etc.  Operates forklifts and pickup trucks.  If working outside the Plant worker may stand or walk up to 80% of the day.  If assigned inside the Plant may walk 50% of day.  Surfaces are variable, uneven ground, paved, grating, concrete or mud.

Preferences
  • Prior experience working as a helper with Journeyman Lineman or Field operations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of plant equipment and duties is helpful.
