Job Summary: Ensures the delivery of clean linen, uniforms, scrubs, linen packs, etc. to the patient/nursing units. Sorts, assembles and wraps linen packs and restocks as needed. Logs linen usage and responds to all requests for clean linen. Provides the highest quality and quantity of clean linen to Saint Francis Health System as needed for patient care.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Work Experience: At least 6 months of laundry processing experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High aptitude for attention to detail. Ability to maneuver in and utilize iPad software Must be able to read and write or understand oral instructions and safety signage. Physically able to meet the physical requirements and working conditions of the job. Is able to understand and operate controls on laundry equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Maintains and conducts inventories and inventory control in patient units and in the laundry facility. Trains new personnel on Linen Helper software, and Tunnel washer operations. Places linens on patient unit carts per assigned par levels specific to each area of hospital by looking up specific requirements in Linen Helper software; uses linen software to record outgoing quantities loaded onto the carts. Operates, monitors, and programs Tunnel washer, press and dryers, including chemical supply system to ensure continuous operation. Adjusts programming as needed for specific product or soil type. Assembles towels and/or linen packs for Surgery and/or Labor and Delivery. Delivers full carts to various departments and returns empty carts to laundry. Unloads and stores new linens and chemicals from delivery trucks to designated areas of laundry department. Loads and unloads clean and/or soiled linen on and off delivery truck for other entities. Picks up soiled linen from laundry chutes and soiled linen storage. Physically sorts linen into bins by laundry type, then weighs soiled linen and hangs on overhead monorail system. Empties soiled linen slings onto the washer conveyor. Manually feeds sheets and blankets into ironer and/or folder. Manually feeds towels, gowns, baby blankets, etc. into small piece folders. Hand folds small linen items such as washcloths, diapers, t-shirts, and restraints. Folds and/or stacks linen as it comes out of ironer/folder and places linens on bulk storage carts. Maintains a clean and safe work environment, cleans equipment and utilizes cart washer to comply with infection control standards and sanitize equipment. Other duties as assigned to facilitate work flow processes.
