The Role

The Weld Engineer specifies ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1, and customer specification compliant welding procedures, weld joint configuration, and coordinates welder qualifications.

What you will be responsible for:
  • Actively develop new welding procedures and welding methods.
  • Liaison between Engineering & Header Bay personnel.
  • Communicate with customers regarding welding issues.
  • Review and assign Welding Procedure Specifications for jobs.
  • Maintain welder qualifications and test methods for both the American Welding Society and Canadian Welding Bureau with regards to structure department.
  • Calculate weld consumables.
  • Maintain the Welding Procedure Specification and Procedure Qualification Report database with current procedures.
  • Maintain and coordinate Pressure Equipment Directive Certification.
  • Develop and publish Welding Procedure Specifications, Procedure Qualification Reports, Tube-toโ€‘Tube Sheet mockโ€‘ups.
  • Review and accommodate welding specifications.
  • Submit requisitions for laboratory work.
  • Regular attendance, ability to arrive at work punctually, ability to work onโ€“site.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, deal respectfully with the public, customers, vendors, other employees, managers, and executive management.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, work in a fastโ€‘paced environment, interchange with others in the department.
  • Ability to provide support to the other departments with respect to welding matters, assist with audits, participate in root cause investigation, provide recommendations for inspection and corrective action.
About you:
  • You have at least 1 year of postโ€‘high school education specifically related to welding.
  • You have working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1, and section IX.
  • You have working knowledge of AWS D1.1.
  • You have knowledge in strength of materials and are able to perform basic engineering strength calculations.
  • You have a basic understanding of welding metallurgy and heat treatment.
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • You are familiar with AutoCAD.
  • Preference is given to individuals that hold any of the following (or similar) certifications:
    • AWS: CWI, CWEng, SCWI
    • CWB: Certified welding supervisor, Certified welding engineer
    • API: 510, 570, 653
