IT FIELD TECHNICIAN I
STATE OF MAINE JUDICIAL BRANCH
LOCATION: York Judicial Center, Biddeford
General Summary:
The Field Technician I (FT1) position is a support technical professional who works with a team of IT specialists in maintaining, deploying, and supporting desktop and laptop computers and office productivity software for Judicial Branch employees. This position will also support local and wide area networks, as well as audiovisual equipment and video conferencing system. This is an entry level field technology position that will assume the same roles as a Field Technician II (FT2) with the understanding that he/she will require training and/or help at times to perform certain tasks.
The FT1 is primarily responsible for direct technical support for State courthouses and other Judicial Branch facilities in Maine and provides technical user and customer service support for judicial officers and staff.
Even though the FT1 is an entry level position, the FT1 must be able to learn to work independently to perform a full range of system administrative functions in a complex IT environment and must be capable of directing escalated problems to the appropriate resources. The FT1 requires excellent customer service skills and strong communication skills. Response to emergency calls during off hours is required.
On the job training will be performed by other state staff as well as may be supplemented by classroom and/or electronic trainings. All training will be approved by the Manager of Technology & Infrastructure.
Statewide travel is required
Salary Range:
Starting pay is $34.43 - $36.16 per hour. Plus 5% Retention Stipend
Grade 16 - $34.43 - $46.64 per hour.

Essential Job Functions:*
  • Provides technical support for:

Desktops / Laptops of various operating systems
User VOIP desk-sets
TCP/IP LAN and WAN networks, including:
Network trouble shooting
Network configuration
  • Tier 2 and 3 Computer Support, including:

Imaging, deploying, software provisioning.
Troubleshooting and remote access troubleshooting
Client software (e.g., Microsoft Office)
Secure equipment retirement
  • Audiovisual equipment and videoconference systems support
  • Participates in the development of the Judicial Branch technical plans and coordinates activities with OIT members, other Judicial Branch personnel, and other agencies with respect to client devices, network, audiovisual, videoconferencing, telecommunication, and other technical issues.
  • Installs new equipment and repairs/replaces old equipment in Judicial Branch facilities around the state.
  • Helps ensure that all information systems operate in a secure, reliable manner.
  • Maintains and manages hardware inventory data, including: serial numbers; locations; users; and equipment status.
  • Maintains relationships with multiple technical vendors.
  • Assists in drafting and documenting department and operational procedures.
  • Writes work orders to secure services from vendors and the Executive Branch Office of Information Technology.
  • Assists with help desk trouble tickets.
  • Assists with presenting information technology training both individual employees and groups of employees at the Judicial Branch.
  • Ability to support and/or learn various computing platforms as necessary such as Windows, OSX, Google, Unix, Android, IOS, etc.
  • Assists on large scale OIT projects.
  • Maintains Audio Visual (AV) equipment for the MJB.
  • Provides IT support for special high priority MJB events.

Education Requirements:
  • An associate degree or technology certification(s) is required, (e.g., Microsoft, Apple, COMPTIA, etc.). (Note: Experience may be substituted for this degree requirement.)
  • Demonstrated one to three (1-3) years experience supporting personal computers / devices (multi-platform experience is a plus (e.g., Windows, OSX, Google, Unix, Android, IOS, etc.) and:
  • Maintaining a large number of client computers in an office enterprise environment.
  • Experience with videoconferencing equipment and audiovisual equipment a plus.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. (Preferred)
