JOB TITLE: 

Desk Assistant - Residence Life

JOB PURPOSE: 

Desk Assistants (DAs) strive to promote an inclusive living and learning environment for students living on-campus at the University of Wyoming. DAs are responsible for staffing front desks & the centralized mailroom, assisting with administrative tasks, helping residents with keys/access, sorting mail, providing exceptional customer service, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Staff the main customer service desks in the Residence Halls and Washakie Center.
  • Answer questions from residents, provide guidance/directions, and assist with safety/security of community.
  • Staff the centralized mail room and assist with mail/package delivery, sorting, and organizing into lockers and resident mailboxes. 
  • Assist with various administrative, facility, and operational tasks within the building.
  • Promote an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.
  • Role model positive personal, academic, and job-related behaviors.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and pride for the DA position.
  • Review, understand, and uphold all items outlined in the Apartment & Residence Hall Policies & Procedures, the Student Code of Conduct, and the Desk Assistant Agreement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

As a Desk Assistant, I understand, I will be expected to:

  • Maintain a minimum semester GPA of 2.5 and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 throughout employment as a Desk Assistant.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (12 hours undergraduate; 9 hours graduate). 
  • Complete and be expected to pass a criminal background check. 
  • Have a positive financial, academic, and student conduct status with Housing, Dining, and Residence Life and the University of Wyoming. 
  • Be available to work at least one overnight shift at a 24-hour desk. Overnight hourly wage is $14.
  • Be available for training sessions, desk scheduling, and monthly staff meetings.
  • Be available to meet with applicable supervisor for monthly 30-minute 1:1 meeting. 
  • Be a strong team player willing to cover/trade shifts as needed and support the overall mission of the residential community. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Previous desk assistant experience.
