What is a HEDIS remote chart reviewer?

A HEDIS Remote Chart Reviewer is a healthcare professional who reviews medical records from a remote location to collect data for the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS). This data is used by health plans to measure performance on important dimensions of care and service. Reviewers look for specific information in patient charts to ensure health plans meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. The job typically requires experience in medical record abstraction, knowledge of HEDIS measures, and strong attention to detail.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a HEDIS remote chart reviewer?

To thrive as a HEDIS Remote Chart Reviewer, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, healthcare coding (ICD-10, CPT), and HEDIS measures, often supported by a clinical background such as nursing or health information management. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMRs), chart abstraction tools, and secure remote work platforms is typical, and experience with HEDIS-specific software is highly valued. Attention to detail, time management, and strong written communication are crucial soft skills for ensuring accurate data extraction and reporting. These competencies ensure high-quality, compliant chart reviews that contribute to healthcare quality initiatives and regulatory reporting.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in a HEDIS remote chart review role, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in HEDIS Remote Chart Review often encounter challenges such as inconsistent documentation in medical records, navigating various electronic health record (EHR) systems, and ensuring data accuracy while working independently. Addressing these challenges involves developing strong attention to detail, leveraging organizational tools to track reviewed charts, and maintaining open communication with team leads and colleagues for clarification or support. Regular training on EHR systems and HEDIS measures can also help reviewers stay current and efficient in their work.

Job description

UpLift & BetterHelp – Redefining Access to Mental Healthcare

At UpLift, we believe mental health is just as important as physical health — and we're rethinking the mental healthcare model. UpLift is a multi-sided marketplace, applying technology to empower patients to find Therapists and Psychiatric providers covered by their insurance plan.

While 1 in 5 Americans struggle with mental health issues, only 40% of this group received care in the last year. At the same time, only 30% of therapists accept insurance. UpLift acts as the bridge between patient, provider, and insurer — empowering patients to find the best care for their needs at a price they can afford.

Why Join UpLift

  • Flexible earnings model*: Compensation includes both patient care and collaboration activities. Physicians can earn $25 per assigned supervision slot (in capped states) and $30 per completed chart review. Total monthly earnings may vary based on state coverage and activity.
  • Expand access to care: Provide psychiatric services to individuals who otherwise may not have access to mental healthcare.
  • Collaborative model: Support and supervise Nurse Practitioners (NPs) through formal collaboration agreements, including chart reviews and consultation.
  • All-in-one virtual platform: Focus on your patients — UpLift handles credentialing, enrollment, and platform operations.
  • Work from anywhere: This role is 100% remote, with care delivered via UpLift's purpose-built telemedicine platform.
  • Flexible commitment: Part-time, 1099 contract position with autonomy over your clinical schedule.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct video consultations and communicate with patients via telemedicine.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients, including prescribing medication when clinically appropriate.
  • Provide supervision and oversight to Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in states requiring collaborative agreements.
  • Complete required chart reviews and provide timely consultation support to NPs.
  • Maintain responsiveness for collaboration duties in accordance with state requirements and UpLift standards.
  • Coordinate care with UpLift's network of therapists and other providers to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Provide empathetic, evidence-based care while upholding UpLift's clinical and service standards.
  • Share product and workflow feedback with UpLift's engineering and operations teams to help improve care delivery.

Who We're Looking For

  • Board-certified Psychiatrist with active clinical experience.
  • Active and unrestricted medical license(s) in one or more of the following priority states: Virginia, Texas, Florida, Georgia, or North Carolina.
  • Multi-state licensure strongly preferred.
  • Experience supervising or collaborating with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (e.g. NPs) is preferred.
  • Comfortable prescribing medication when clinically appropriate and permitted by state law.
  • Skilled at using online tools and technology to deliver virtual care.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to provide timely consultation support.
  • Previous telemedicine experience is a plus.

Important to Know

  • This is a part-time, contract (1099) position — not a salaried employee role.
  • Physicians may set their own schedules for patient care; however, collaboration responsibilities require ongoing responsiveness.
  • Physicians may stop seeing patients at any time, but collaborative agreement responsibilities require a 120-day wind-down period to ensure continuity of care.
  • Compensation structure varies by state depending on collaboration requirements (capped vs. uncapped states).
  • UpLift will credential and enroll you with multiple health plans to expand access to insured patients.
  • All care is delivered remotely through UpLift's telehealth platform.
  • All clinical decisions are made independently by licensed providers in accordance with state telehealth laws and professional standards.

License/Certification: Medical License (Required)

Location: Georgia

Work Location: Remote

*Compensation is paid on a per-activity basis and is not a guaranteed hourly wage or salary amount. Actual earnings vary based on state-requirements, completed activities, patient care activity, and other operational factors.
