Job description

The Hedge Fund team member will help develop and oversee UTIMCO’s equity market neutral managed account hedge fund platform by sourcing, underwriting, and monitoring fundamental equity managers; evaluating portfolio performance, risk, and asset allocation; negotiating investment terms; and maintaining strong relationships with investment partners. The successful candidate will bring 7+ years of buyside fundamental equity investing experience, strong underwriting, quantitative, portfolio construction, and risk-management skills. The candidate must have the ability to lead comprehensive due diligence, communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, and represent UTIMCO with integrity and professionalism. The role also requires advanced financial-tool and responsible artificial intelligence (AI) proficiency, strong written and verbal communication, mentoring capability, and willingness to travel.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Assist in building and monitoring UTIMCO’s equity market neutral managed account hedge fund platform, which includes:
  • Sourcing and assessing new portfolio managers by establishing trusted industry contacts, meeting prospective partners, and attending relevant industry events
  • Monitoring individual manager and overall portfolio performance and risk
  • Fostering valued relationships with all investment partners
  • Conducting periodic updates to initial due diligence
  • Conducting periodic on-site visits with key investment and operations personnel
  • Lead comprehensive due diligence process for evaluating and underwriting prospective fundamental equity managers (including but not limited to in-depth company analysis, manager performance and risk, manager strengths and weaknesses, risk management, reference checks, evaluation of service providers, assessment of existing investor base, and thorough review of relevant legal documents with input from counsel)
  • Negotiate fees and terms on new and existing investments with counsel
  • Assist the Senior Managing Director with asset allocation decisions and portfolio evaluation
  • Prepare standard and ad hoc reports and presentations to facilitate communication and transparency to the Investment Committee, Board of Directors, and other external entities as required
  • Mentor and develop junior-level team members
  • Maintain knowledge of global capital markets and industry trends by monitoring current financial publications, leveraging personal contacts with outside research/industry professionals, and conducting ad hoc research
  • Represent UTIMCO in the marketplace with highest integrity and professionalism

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of buyside experience in fundamental equity investing
  • Strong understanding of fundamental underwriting, portfolio construction, and risk management
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally across Investment team members and UTIMCO
  • Exceptional quantitative skills, with the ability to evaluate fund and portfolio performance
  • Advanced proficiency in financial tools and applications (e.g., Excel, Bloomberg)
  • Proficiency in applying artificial intelligence (AI) tools to improve research, analysis, communication, and workflow efficiency, with sound judgment regarding accuracy, confidentiality, and appropriate use
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships
  • Collaborative, organized, adaptable, and resourceful, with a team-oriented and “can-do” attitude
  • Unquestioned honesty, integrity, and transparency
  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally (10%)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field
  • MBA from a leading institution

Note: This role requires in-office 4 days a week: Monday through Thursday.
