Lawrence Companies is seeking an experienced Diesel Technician Specialist to join our growing maintenance team in Roanoke, VA. We are looking for a highly skilled technician with strong diagnostic abilities, a solid work ethic, and hands-on experience repairing and maintaining diesel-powered trucks and heavy equipment.

Previous heavy-haul wrecker, heavy-duty towing, or recovery equipment experience is required for this position. The ideal candidate will have experience working with the specialized mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and recovery systems associated with heavy wreckers and heavy-duty towing equipment.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain diesel trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and heavy-haul wreckers
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy wrecker and recovery equipment, including hydraulic systems, PTO systems, winches, booms, outriggers, controls, and related components
  • Troubleshoot issues involving heavy-duty towing and recovery equipment and ensure equipment is maintained in safe, operational condition
  • Perform preventative maintenance and major component repairs
  • Work on engines, transmissions, electrical systems, hydraulics, HVAC, suspension, steering, brakes, fuel systems, and emissions systems
  • Utilize diagnostic software and scan tools to identify and resolve issues efficiently
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and manufacturer service manuals
  • Complete repairs safely, accurately, and in a timely manner
  • Maintain detailed repair documentation and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
  • Support shop cleanliness, safety standards, and OSHA compliance
What We're Looking For
  • Previous hands-on heavy-haul wrecker, heavy-duty towing, or recovery equipment experience required
  • 3+ years of diesel technician experience preferred
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy wrecker hydraulic, electrical, PTO, winch, boom, and recovery systems
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and diesel equipment
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, ECM diagnostics, hydraulics, and air brake systems
  • Familiarity with heavy-duty towing and recovery equipment, rigging, and safe equipment operation
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
  • Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and service software
  • CDL preferred or ability to obtain one
  • Must provide your own tools
  • Strong work ethic with a sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to stand, bend, crawl, stoop, climb, and work in varying shop and weather conditions
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles, heavy wreckers, and related equipment
