Mustang Cat is actively hiring experienced Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Mechanics for both Shop Service and Field Service positions in Houston, Texas. If you're a skilled diesel technician with a passion for fixing earthmoving equipment, this is your opportunity to build a lasting career with a trusted Caterpillar® dealership.
What You'll Do as a Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Mechanic:
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you'll inspect, service, diagnose, and repair Cat diesel-powered equipment and construction machinery, including:
  • Set-up, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance
  • Component replacement (hydraulics, fuel systems, transmissions, undercarriage, electrical, etc.)
  • Shop Service: Work with mentor technicians in a fully equipped shop
  • Field Service: Operate from a company-provided service truck, servicing customers at their job sites
  • Maintain high-quality standards and follow all safety procedures

Position Requirements:
  • Must own tools required to perform heavy equipment repairs
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical understanding of diesel engines, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Hands-on experience with transmissions, track systems, components, and fuel systems
  • Previous experience with Caterpillar or competitive earthmoving equipment brands
  • Proficient in technical diagnostics and able to use Cat ET (Electronic Technician) or similar systems

Strongly Preferred:
  • Welding and fabrication experience: MIG welding, arc gouging, oxyacetylene torch
  • Familiarity with hydraulic pumps, valves, and motors
  • Formal training from OEM programs or accredited technical schools
  • Experience using diagnostic tools such as Cat ET, Cummins Insite, or competitor platforms
