About the Practice

Heaton Eye Associates has been serving East Texas vision needs for more than 40 years, with three locations offering state-of-the-art technology and services, including primary vision care, pediatrics, oculoplastic, glaucoma, cosmetic, and world-class laser surgery. Recently, Heaton Eye was named Best Place in East Texas to Have LASIK by Tyler Morning Telegraph readers. Our dedicated physicians strive to enhance the quality of our patient's lives by providing reassurance, improving and maintaining vision, and preventing blindness through treatment and education.

About the Area

Our East Texas locations in Tyler, Longview, and Athens offer year-round activities the entire family can enjoy. In Longview, you can experience Texas' rich history and culture. Tyler is surrounded by 25 prime sporting lakes, offering wonderful opportunities for fishing and boating. In the spring, Tyler residents enjoy the colorful spring flowers. Athens, whose tag line is Hamburgers-Heritage-Texas, has the charm of a small, southern town while still retaining many qualities of a larger city and is home to the East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society.

Job Duties Include:
• Perform comprehensive eye and vision tests
• Diagnose defects of the eye, such as myopia, astigmatism, dry eye, and glaucoma
• Provide personalized temporary and permanent solutions to sight issues based on each patient’s specific case and medical history
• Prescribe medications, eyeglasses and contact lenses
• Advise patients on proper eye care techniques
• Keep updated and accurate medical records for all patients
• Pre- and post-surgical management
• Train patients on how to use and maintain their contact lenses
Qualifications:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to perform accurate and consistent manifest refractions
• Understanding of refractive procedures and modern IOL technology
• In-depth understanding of eye conditions and vision defects
• Hands-on experience with eye examination tools, such as ophthalmoscope and tonometer
• The ability to explain medical terms simply and calmly
• Attention to detail
• Degree in Optometry
