Job description

Veterinary Health Care Technician (VHCT)

The Orange County Animal Services Department has an opening for a Veterinary Health Care Technician (VHCT). The work involves performing physical and behavioral examination and medical procedures of animals admitted to, and adopted from, the animal shelter. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Medical Program Supervisor and Medical Director Veterinarian with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding needs and requests. Supervision or leading others is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

Work location: 1601 Eubanks Road Chapel Hill * A pre-employment drug screen and background check is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered college or university with an associate degree in veterinary medical technology or closely related field AND three (3) years of veterinary experience, OR An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared. Possession of or ability to obtain certification as a Certified Euthanasia Technician within the first six (6) months of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain certification as a Certified Rabies Vaccinator at the earliest class offering for such certification and no later than one (1) year of hire with Orange County.
