Healthcare Software Testing information

Are healthcare software testers still in demand?

Healthcare software testers are in demand due to the ongoing need for quality assurance in electronic health records, telemedicine platforms, and healthcare applications. Skills in testing tools, understanding healthcare regulations, and certifications like ISTQB can enhance job prospects in this field.

What is a healthcare software testing?

A Healthcare Software Testing job involves evaluating medical software applications to ensure they function correctly, securely, and in compliance with healthcare regulations. Testers verify features such as patient data management, electronic health records (EHR), and medical device integration. They conduct functional, performance, security, and compliance testing to meet industry standards like HIPAA and FDA guidelines. The role requires knowledge of healthcare workflows, testing methodologies, and automation tools to ensure software reliability and patient safety.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in healthcare software testing, and why are they important?

To thrive in Healthcare Software Testing, a strong understanding of software QA methodologies, test case development, and healthcare industry regulations (such as HIPAA) is essential, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with automated testing tools (like Selenium or QTP), bug tracking systems, and certifications such as ISTQB or CSTE are highly valuable. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are key soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills ensure accurate, regulatory-compliant software testing that safeguards patient data and supports the delivery of reliable healthcare solutions.

What are common challenges faced in healthcare software testing roles?

Healthcare software testers often encounter unique challenges like verifying compliance with strict industry regulations (such as HIPAA or FDA guidelines), ensuring high data accuracy, and validating complex integrations with medical devices or health data platforms. Testers must also adapt to evolving standards and address the critical need for patient safety and data privacy throughout the software development lifecycle. Collaborating closely with developers, business analysts, and healthcare professionals helps ensure software meets real-world clinical requirements. Overcoming these challenges can be rewarding, as it directly supports safer, more effective healthcare solutions.

Job description

Solutions • Full-time • San Francisco; New York
Apply
Our mission is to automate coding. The first step in our journey is to build the best tool for professional programmers, using a combination of inventive research, design, and engineering. Our organization is very flat, and our team is small and talent dense. We particularly like people who are truth-seeking, passionate, and creative. We enjoy spirited debate, crazy ideas, and shipping code.
About the role
We're hiring a Regional Director, Field Engineering to build and lead a high impact pre-sales Field Engineering team focused on Cursor's healthcare vertical - supporting our fastest growing enterprise accounts across health systems, payers, and healthcare software companies. This role sits at the intersection of Sales, Product, and Engineering and is responsible for ensuring our technical pre-sales motion scales with quality, speed, and credibility.
As the Regional Director, Field Engineering, you'll manage and develop Field Engineers who partner closely with AEs to run technical discovery, demos, and proofs of concept tailored to Healthcare buyers. You'll also stay close to customers and deals yourself, coaching in real time, unblocking complex evaluations, and ensuring Cursor is positioned as the best AI-native development platform for healthcare engineering organizations.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who combines technical fluency, strong people management, and excellent cross-functional judgment.
What you'll do
  • Lead, coach, and scale a team of Field Engineers supporting enterprise opportunities
  • Partner closely with Sales leadership and AEs to drive high quality technical discovery, demos, and POCs
  • Establish best practices for evaluations, proof-of-concept execution, and technical deal strategy, accounting for healthcare-specific requirements (HIPAA, data governance, legacy systems integration)
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex customer evaluations and high-stakes enterprise deals in the healthcare space
  • Hire, onboard, and develop top-tier Field Engineering talent with healthcare or regulated-industry domain experience; set clear expectations and career paths
  • Act as the voice of the field internally, feeding customer and prospect insights back to Product and Engineering
  • Ensure tight handoffs with post-sales teams to support successful customer onboarding and adoption
  • Maintain deep knowledge of Cursor's product, roadmap, and competitive landscape

You may be a fit if
  • You have 4+ years experience leading Field Engineers, Solutions Architects, or Pre-Sales teams in enterprise software, with meaningful exposure to healthcare, health tech, or another regulated industry
  • You have direct experience navigating healthcare buyer environments - health systems, payers, or healthcare software vendors - including compliance, security, and procurement dynamics specific to the space
  • You have proven your ability to partner effectively with Sales while maintaining technical integrity and customer trust
  • You are comfortable operating in customer-facing, high-pressure deal environments and guiding teams through complexity
  • You have strong communication skills and executive presence, and can engage developers, architects, CTOs, and healthcare IT leadership
  • You have a builder mindset: you thrive in fast-moving, startup environments and enjoy creating structure where little exists
